no! i wasn't talking to you. it;s true some people get screwed over, because they give up on their passion. if you have the passion, the talent and you know you will never give up i say go for it as well. but there's nothing wrong about pursuing that in college either, that's my opinion.

it's true it's a sketchy field as well as every other field. it is sad that when someone doesn't have what it takes and doesn't make it, i know it's hurtful. at my college they do sophomore barriers where if the voice falculty doesn't think you have the potential to make it they will cut you from the program. They're not trying to be mean but simply do a favor.

CAP 21 is an excellent program. I studied there in the summer of 1997. As I recall, it was quite dance intensive, with the vocal training being the next most intensive. Look elsewhere to supplement your "straight" actor training.

The environment is supportive yet tough. You'll only get out of it what you put in, so you'll have to work hard--and often--or else you'll be wasting your time and your money. Same goes for any training program, really.

And for the record, I think anyone who dreams of performing on Broadway one day should absolutely study theater in college. Ideally, you'd double major in theater and anything else, but the point is that studying the craft in college can help you decide if it's what you really want to do. You'll be introduced to the rigors of working in full-scale productions and given a taste of just how much you'll have to sacrifice. That's what college is about--finding yourself.

And this is coming from someone with a BFA in drama who is now a Web designer. I use that drama degree every time I've had a presentation to make, an idea to pitch, or a consultation to do. Selling IS acting! And all of us will have to sell something at some point in our lives--our services, our skills, our ideas.

There's lots you can do with a theater degree...not the least of which is to BE CREATIVE!!

I literally laughed out loud after the 'you don't need training to be on broadway' comment. I've done workshops with broadway actors/actresses and every single one suggested that you go to college(even the ones who had dropped out after a year or two). Also, dance classes, voice lessons, etc are all forms of training and I think you'd have to be a moron to go audition for a broadway show without any training. That's just my opinion though

Any field requires talent. The difference - you can be a horrible lawyer and still work in a firm. Chances are you won't get onstage (other than to clean it) if you aren't exceptional.

Think of every commercial you have seen. Now, a lot of those people wanted to become actors - now what are they doing?
