"Bill Bordy, vice president of the Sarasota Senior Theater in Bradenton, was rehearsing a scene from John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" Monday evening when he picked up a pistol he had borrowed from another cast member.
Bordy pointed the loaded revolver at the head of another actor, Fred Kellerman, and pulled the trigger."

I read this version earlier this morning, and I enjoyed the fact that the guy who was, you know, SHOT IN THE HEAD, that he was so ok that his big complaint was the tetanus shot that he had to get-
The wounded actor says the worst part of the shooting was the loud bang which caused momentary hearing loss, and a painful tetanus shot administered by nurses at the hospital.
Actor shot in head when prop gun turns out to be real and loaded
I feel proud knowing that (when not in college) I live only half an hour away from Bradenton.
I almost thought that video in the second link was going to show the incident...I probably would've gotten a sick laugh out of it.
Ah Sarasota... lmao. I'm from Fort Myers.

Jon-Erik Hexum would love this story. Too bad he was shot in the head with a prop gun and killed twenty-five years ago.

Do not -- do not -- DO NOT point even a gun that you KNOW is unloaded at any part of another actor. Aim upstage or downstage, for crying out loud. These "actors" might as well have been playing Russian roulette.
Why am I not surprised that this happened in my hometown?
Honestly. Ridiculous.
Exactly, sparrman! The audience won't be able to tell the difference. It will still read to them that the gun is being pointed at the other person. Scary stuff.
Wow. I learned the never-point-a-gun-directly-at-someone rule in HIGH SCHOOL. C'mon, people.
Do you think this was orchestrated by the same evil techies as that... incident with the man who cut his own throat onstage in Austria not too long ago?
Egad, it's a conspiracy. I did think the techs at my school did look a bit sinister.

Brandon Lee, too, in The Crow.

Why would you use a loaded gun on stage?...
I bet the understudy lent the gun.

This really creeps me out. As many of you know, I was very good friends with opera singer Jerry Hadley who killed himself over a year ago with an air rifle that he pointed to his own temple. I came across a photo of the two of us earlier today and only a few hours ago heard him singing an aria from THE PEARL FISHERS on the local NPR station. Now this. I'm wondering if Jerry is trying to tell me something?
SHUDDER
Guns are bad.
Don't shoot in the temple. Aim for a less vulnerable spot?

dramarama2, guns are not bad if you're Hedda Gabler.
Oh, Dollypop, shivers and chills just ran down my spine reading your post. (NOT the Hedda Gabler one...)
Schmerg, I've seen the techs at your school. They DO look a little sinister.....
They made Hugh Panaro wear their tech uniform to sing on our stage (1:58-2:10): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0s44BH77BTo
Disclaimer to members of the site who aren't StockardFan: No, seriously, our techs are absolutely brilliant and dazzlingly talented. I love them very much. They just terrify me.
HAHAHA! I know, Schmerg, I was kidding. They were a tremendous help every year when I did the fashion show. Even though they could be sorta mean to the models.
that's not a uniform.
it's a black t-shirt that says TECH
they wear those for the shows?
the white "TECH" probably stands out in scene changes. what happened to all black for techies?
silly.
Dude, they don't wear those DURING the shows (unless they have black jackets over them). And in musicals, they usually wear costumes during the show so as to blend in. But they wear the tech t-shirts ever waking second of their lives, which is why I call it their 'uniform.' Kind of like how I've worn the same leather jacket every day since seventh grade.
