First off I want to tell everyone this is not a NEGATIVE thread. I was doing some research on a project and my perfect creative team and team of performers would be fantasitc, but I realized that those who I would love to see do this project have had some hard times in the past and some no longer want to work with those people anymore. I though to myself too, "Oh, come on, be professional about it and do it, for the show, for the art". But there were certain people that declined (and there went my dream cast and cew).
That got me thinking, what creators, producers, designers, actors, etc that you ever felt that would make a great cast/crew or creative team and realize it will never happen beacuse those peoople have many differences among them (personal and professional).
I know that producers and so on like to work with people that they have worked well with in the past, (like any job), but I have thought that it is so sad to not get so many great people in one room because of ego, jealous, etc.
The reason why I mentioned this is that, I see the arts as one big world. And, that everyone in it should come togehter no matter.... but that is me just being in a perfect world.
Remind you, this is not a negative thread, just observation.

I understand that Trevor Nunn has worked with a lot of the same people for a long time. And it's probably understandable that Jack O'Brien and Jerry Mitchell only like to work with some of the best designers in the biz.
Susan Stroman has worked with pretty much the same people as well.

Posted: 2/4/08 at 5:47pmIt's not uncommon for a creative team to stick together. A director always using the same stage manager, lighting designer, set designer, costume designer, and sound designer....yeah, happens a lot.

Posted: 2/4/08 at 9:27pmI completely understand where they are coming from, I am a musical director/pit conductor/pit pianist, and whenever I have the power to I always hire the same violinist, reed player, bassist, drummer, and trumpet player. It makes everybody's lives so much easier because we are used to playing with each other, and so much of our communication is silent now, so if there is a mistake on stage and we have to keep vamping, it becomes much easier; and also we sound great together.

Posted: 2/5/08 at 9:22amIt's true. You find that people's working styles are very different. (Sometimes to the point that it is unbearable!) Some people mesh and some don't. Why change something that's not broken?
