I'm going to New York from Aug 8-10 and seeing Drowsy, Tarzan, Purple, and Sweeney in that order... do you know if any principles are on vacation or scheduled to be out?
AND how early should i get in line to get student rush tickets to Tarzan for a wed. matinee and Sweeney for a thurs. night?

Posted: 8/6/06 at 12:34pmLaChanze returns to TCP on August 9, so you will probably see her first or second performance back. I know Josh Strickland was out this week from Tarzan, but he'll be back next week. I'm pretty sure Patti's out until the 15th from Sweeney, but other than that I'm not sure.

Posted: 8/6/06 at 12:45pmGetting Student Rush tickets for Sweeney is very easy. I got there at 45 mins till curtain and still got a decent seat.

Posted: 8/6/06 at 1:07pmSweeney is easy because they give you what's left and if they don't have rush, like for a Saturday night, you can buy the mezz seats for 36.25 or if when you're seeing it Judy is still in, see it for 50 bucks in the orchestra.

jv - that is very harsh. From what I've heard she's having vocal problems. If a performer is sick or injured, I think it is wrong for others to slate them for putting their health before their immediate performance plans.
I doubt she really WANTS to be missing shows.

JV, that was really uncalled for and very much in the style of Riedel.
Yes, her attendance sucks, but that has nothing to do with how she doesn't understand the concept of work. She is a perfectionist and is ill right now and only performs when she feels that she can do it perfectly.
Don't worry, her understudy, Kenita R. Miller is fantastic. I saw her two days after opening and she was great, I can only imagine that she improved since then.

Posted: 8/7/06 at 2:35pmGod, she has one terrible song at the end of the show and songs aren't meant to be screamed. I really didn't care for her performance and am still a little pissed Patti LuPone lost the Tony, so that's why I'm crueler than usual to her.

Just popping on this thread to make a quick comment JV.
If you're pissed off (to whatever extent) about Patti not winning the Tony, why take it out on LaChanze. LaChanze didn't give herself the Tony, the committtee did. To lash out at another actor because you didn't like what the voting contingency did, is in my opinion, wrong.

God oh mighty,
I don't like her. I don't like that she won. If you'd like me to go on about the Tony Comittee, I'd gladly do that, but it'd take up a whole thread. Yes, it is their fault. It seems to me that this board thinks that everything I say is too harsh, which it can be. However, this time I feel that I am right. Back in the days of the great stars, no one had vocal problems (or missed shows) and roles like Mama Rose and Eliza Doolittle were much more difficult than the role of Cellie. The ladies in the category she won in had more difficult roles than Cellie.
If everyone is looking for an appology, I'm not really sorry about what I said. I don't think I was wrong. It's a matter of opinion. I don't think she's a bad person, I just think she should miss so many performances.

It's her fault that she won? So is it her fault that she was outstanding in the show? Is it her fault that Patti lost?
I don't get your last post.

Posted: 8/7/06 at 3:34pmWell I can only hope, as you live your life, that your successes (especially those that are awarded to you by others) don't incite the same disdain you have shown. And I hope no one makes derogatory statements about your devotion to your career based on factors they don't know details about. When you get a few moments, you should read back your statements. They're a bit contradictory.

Alright, I can't be elaborate and go on forever.
What I mean to say is-
She won a freakin' Tony! She should go on! Vocal problems didn't stop people with far more demanding roles in the good old days from going on.
re: Actors out#13
Posted: 8/7/06 at 3:53pmit is your opinion that the other roles are more difficult. sometimes it is not possible to prevent an illness. as far as the tony goes, who cares! it is great in all but let the work speak for itself. i know patti did not do sweeney to win a piece of marble with a spinning scrap of metal. award shows are based on OPINIONS. the comitte thought LaChanze was the best, so why is it worth getting upset about.
re: Actors out#14
Posted: 8/7/06 at 4:09pmNYC. Well said. but I'll just add that he or she can get as pissed off as they want that Patti didn't win, but it's just misdirected to take that out on LaChanze - whether you like her or not.

We also didn't know then about vocal health what we do now. Singing through illness can be damaging to the voice, and she needs to do what she needs to do to protect her instrument. I don't know the details of her absences, but her voice is how she makes her money, and she needs to look beyond this show and be sure that she can continue to sing in the years to come. It's not worth risking vocal damage by going on when ill.

Posted: 8/8/06 at 6:23amjv, in my opinion, if you're ill, you're ill. Say she has vocal problems - maybe nodules or polyps or something - you can't expect her to put herself in danger of never being ABLE to sing again by singing in the immediate tense. I don't know, it's a philosophy thing, but I guess some people still see it as a show, as a job, where actually their life (and thus the continuity of their working life) is more important to them than their actual immediate job. Weird, huh?
