Yeah the first one is a nice one. re: Adam Rapp's books/plays They look nothing alike though, it surprised me at first. But from what I've heard, the similarity is in their voices.

Hmmm. I'm trying to get a friend of mine to expand her horizons a bit by reading different plays(which haven't been performed at our school before or that she hasn't seen before) and books so I recommended Adam Rapp to her, but I don't know if she'll take. The school library is so old they don't really have anything new so I told her to go to a used bookstore for his books/plays. But I got her to check out The Rainmaker which I'm very happy about. So we'll see how this goes.

I'll be interested to see how she likes the books. Adam Rapp's books are always a good recommendation for new plays to read. I never really read plays until reading his books so I was a bit uncertain on how I'd like it when I saw a copy at Borders and decided to buy it out of curiosity. I fell in love with it after the first few pages but its to each his/her own.

Yeah. This shall be interesting. I actually decided I wanted to try and read a different author I hadn't read before, I saw SCDS(sorry really lazy and don't want to spell it out) and bought it on the spot and loved it. I think I'll have to re-read Finer Noble Gases though. I just won't comment on that for awhile. I'll re-read it and see what happens then. We'll see. Now if I can manage to get it out of where it is that would be great!

:-P Yeah SCDS was actually the first play I've really read fully. I've read other exceprts of plays for scenework and to actually act out but I've never gone to the bookstore and bought a whole play before that. But I'd heard alot of good stuff about Adam Rapp's books and I was browsing, saw SCDS and decided to give it a shot. And as I said, I'm so glad I did because it's opened up this whole new genre and vista of books to read that I never would have looked into before. re: Adam Rapp's books/plays

I agree. Plus gives acting a different twist too. I'm actually using one of the monologues from SCDS and pretty much everyone who knows what it's about thinks I'm nuts for choosing that monologue. But I'm willing to put the work out there and do the monologue and I love it so much. I just hate the work that we're doing with it(making collages about our characters and stuff). Drama is killing me, but I love the monologue and I'll definitely be different from all the other girls in my class(one about a sex crazed girl and one who goes to a liposuction, and how the hell do you spell that? clinic, etc.) so it's all very interesting. Love that play.

Yeah I'm going to ask my acting teacher if I can do a scene or monologue from one of Adam's plays for our final show this summer. It'd be really exciting if he agreed to let me and it'd also be quite a challenge which I think would really add to the experience. So I'm crossing my fingers that he'll agree.

Ummm... It's kinda folk-y at some parts, it is rock, I'm just not entirely sure how I would clasify it.

I went on a library hunt for Adam's work last week and took out a bunch of books... I read The Buffalo Tree and Missing the Piano first, then I read Under the Wolf, Under the Dog yesterday and 33 Snowfish today. Loved them all. He makes his characters extremely real with their own quirks and sayings... not to mention dozens of references to places I know. There was a part of 33 Snowfish that mentioned "the RadioShack on Larkin" and I just so happened to be on Larkin Avenue when I was reading that. Granted, its an hour away from the Larkin he was talking about in Joliet, but it was still cool.

Dreamcatcher, if you look at Adam's picture(which Anthony took :) ) in the back of Missing The Piano, you'll be able to see resemblance between the two, particularily in the chin/mouth area.

""Nocturne" was wonderful at New York Theatre Workshop a few seasons ago. Dallas Roberts gave a remarkable performance as the narrator. "
"I agree with MargoChanning that Dallas Roberts was amazing. I am not familiar with his other works."

*Keels over* I love love LOVE Dallas Roberts! He is an incredible actor. You should check out the movie "A Home At The End Of The World"(and the book as well!). Its an independent Warner Bros film and its still on the new releases shelf at video stores. He was completely AMAZING in that movie, especially in the bathroom scene where he starts freaking out and shaking and crying... wow...

And so I'm not COMPLETELY threadjacking with the Dallas Roberts stuff... Its kinda funny. Dallas played the character of Jonathan in AHaTEoTW, the charater of Jonathan reminded me a bit of the character of Mark Cohen, who was originated by Anthony Rapp, whose brother is Adam Rapp, who wrote a play Dallas was in. Whoa.

Yeah I'd love to see the pic. re: Adam Rapp's books/plays I have to find a spare moment to get my ass down to the library so I can read more of his work. So far I've only read SCDS and I'm almost done with Nocturne. Both are amazing and if I had the money I'd go out and buy the rest of his works.

And thanks for the article Abba. re: Adam Rapp's books/plays As for the CD, I'm going to order it this weekend so I guess I'll see for myself what genre it is. :-P

re: Adam Rapp's books/plays Reminds me of this one girl who is 4ft 10ish doing a conflict scene with our teacher who is about 6ft (maybe a little above). He literally picked her up by the waist and threw her over his shoulder and walked out of the room with her. :-P Good memories...good memories....

I would post the picture, but my scanner is broken... maybe after school I'll try to find it on a Google search. Or, if anyone is willing to go to the library, its in the hardcover Missing The Piano. Its a black and white picture and he's glancing off to the side.

6'3? Whoa. No wonder he was a basketball player. Is Anthony that tall?
