re: Adams, Chenoweth, and McLaughlin to Perform Enchanted @ Oscars

Idina's people must really be slacking tremendously or there must be somebody on the other side of the negotiations that would make this happen who's being stubborn. Idina was IN the movie and she's got a brand new major-label album--this would be a perfect time to have Idina do something like this. How did Idina's people manage to fail landing this one? What a missed opportunity.

Is Kristin REALLY that much of a bigger name? I pay zero attention to TV, so I don't know. I can't imagine that Jon McLaughlin is any better known than she is either.

Probably not, though PUSHING DAISIES has certainly brought more attention lately, and she did star in her own (albeit failed) sitcom, had a high profile role in THE WEST WING, and has done a bunch of awful movies. Why I imagine Chenoweth got to perform over Menzel or anyone else is that most likely she has better connections, knows more people in the business, and perhaps has better PR people than Menzel. Remember, it's a business, so it probably comes down to who is the better businesswoman.
I'm just delighted that Adams will get to sing live, I believe she has gone on to say she has never done it before. At least she didn't chickened out like Renee Zellweger.

Beyonce singing every nominated song was a mistake that got a lot of backlash, so they didn't want to repeat it.

I love the score of Enchanted but I'm scratching my head on 3 songs nominated and Eddie Vedder's incredible songs for Into the Wild totally overlooked!!!! bummed me out and will make Enchanted's win less enchanting.
You see, obsessions are very personal things, they come from deep inside us, where we are open and vulnerable, which is why I consider them sacred, not to be belittled....PalJoey

I think that Idina's PR person is failing her in general. She has Liz Rosenberg who is Madonna's and Josh Groban's publicist and from what I can see she does a great job of keeping her folks OUT of the press, but doesn't do much to keep them in. It would be an honor to have such a big named publicist, but she obviously doesn't feel a need to work very hard for her clients. I Stand is a great album and they have made several mistakes in the overall promotion. Brave was not the best choice for a single and they have been promoting endlessly to tweens. I think Idina's hardcore audience would have been found in the Oprah watching set and they should have paid for ads on there. Look at how well symphony is doing for Sarah Brightman and all she really did was advertise during the Oprah show.

Sarah Brightman also has a cultish fanbase that likes her outside of Phantom.
"[Gore] was widely perceived as arrogant. If you know something, you're not smart. You're a smarty-pants. It's annoying. People get annoyed with your knowledge. It goes back to high school, to not doing your homework ... 'There's something I should know, I don't know why I should know it but someone knows it and I don't. So I'm going to have to make fun of him now.'" -Sarah Vowell, The Partly-Cloudy Patriot
