Advice needed: I wanna see Sutton Foster in Shrek so bad

Hi,
I am planning a 5 day NYC trip for sometime this month. One of reasons is that I really wanna see Sutton Foster performing in Shrek. However, I know there is always chance that the show I attend played by understudy. BTW, I am totally new to the whole broadway thing.

I wonder that if there are ways to find out who will be performing at a certain day (for sure)? Or are there certain days in a week that the chance of understudy performing is the lowest? Should I call box office to find out? Or Shoud I go to the box office in person to ask?

Any advices are greatly appreciated!!!

SOMETIMES you can check http://broadwayunderstudies.com and see if the understudy has posted a known coverage. This happens when the absence in known ahead of time.


Often if there is a vacation of a "name" telecharge sometimes lists it.

Other than that there is NO way to know....she could be fine for the Matinee and get a migraine and not make the evening show.

Yeah, you can find out if she missed the previous show or shows by going to the theatre but for the particular show you want, it's a crap shoot.

She took some time off last week to do a concert at Lincoln Center, and has been plugging her recent album release, but she back to her usual full schedule as Fiona by now.
Also, her birthday is coming up on the 18th, a great time to see her!

I think Sutton has an excellent reputation for showing up at her job.
When I was younger I went to see PIPPIN, well into it's run to see an actor who I had enjoyed in THE HAPPY TIME (get it?).
He was out that night.
I left a note for him at the Stage Door, and told him what happened and he got in touch and had an usher walk me in and went out for drinks with me after.
Class.
You want to see Sutton, she is Great in Shrek.
You can always do the lotto and eat M&Ms.

The only thing I can think of that hasn’t already been said is if you are a student and wait ‘til the understudy board is posted in the lobby and then once you know she’s definitely in for that performance, grab a student rush ticket. Of course, there may be the chance that there are no student rush tickets available that close to curtain time, depending on the day.

But otherwise, you should be fine. Sutton rarely ever misses a show unless she’s sick or has another engagement to be at. Your chances of seeing her are quite good.
