After all these years, I'm finally seeing POTO.

When I was 9, my parents took me to see POTO. Apparently, the story goes, I slept through it all. Which, I suppose, could explain why I don't remember a single second of it. I was young, probably bored, and probably didn't understand any of it.

Today, though, I realized they sell rear mezzanine seats for 20$ - the closest thing they have to a student rush policy. So I picked up a single ticket, and tonight, I'm going to go and experience it for the first time since my childhood cat-nap of three hours.

I'll be sure to post a review!

Oh, good! That was the show that got me into theatre. I saw it twice! Enjoy, and definately post a review, iluvtheatertrash.

And bring binoculars! Trust me, you'll need them!

re: After all these years, I'm finally seeing POTO.

Carlotta was out, rest of cast in.

Folks, this is the most phoned in performance ever. It is stale, tired, and drab.

Yes, I slept through it. AGAIN. I don't remember a thing.

I went with my family to see this, and we all found out after-the-fact that we all wanted to walk out - but no one wanted to risk offending anyone else.

I'll post a review sometime tomorrow. (Or today, if you want to do it correctly.) But I need sleep.

re: After all these years, I'm finally seeing POTO.

What a shame. The first time I saw the show, with Howard McGillin, and the second time I saw the show, with Brad Little, I was totally mesmerized. But when I saw it last spring with Hugh Panaro and co., I was so disappointed because it was stale and lethargic. I was hoping it was just an off-day. re: After all these years, I'm finally seeing POTO.

re: After all these years, I'm finally seeing POTO.

Well, I saw Phantom a second time over the summer. When i first saw it a few years ago, it was the best thing anyone could see. When I saw it this time, I found it somewhat slow and tired. I didn't like Christine that much, Hugh Panaro as the Phantom was good, as were the rest. Some things you can see one time, and be completely mesmerized by it, and the second time, it's just not what you'd remember. I still liked it. It's got a few years left in it.

That is really sad.

It makes me appreciate the fact that I saw it in London. That performance was wonderful!

re: After all these years, I'm finally seeing POTO.

It's been probably 10 years since I last saw the production, but it was completely amazing and mesmerizing.

If she's really gotten that stale then it's definitely time to close her down.

Oh, it won't close for a while. In January, it becomes the longest running B'way musical which is BOUND to sell enough tickets to keep it open another year, probably more.

It's just very... yes. Stale. It's not exciting anymore.

re: After all these years, I'm finally seeing POTO.

I saw it a thousand years ago in L.A. with Crawford (twice) when it opened. It was incredible and remains one of the best experiences I've seen in theatre.

Then I saw it about 2 years ago with McGillan. It was very tired and by-the-numbers. Lisa Vroman was electrifying as Christine (and she was new to the NYC cast then), if a bit too old for the part now. She's been playing it for 15 years or so in various tours, but this was her B'way debut in the part and it showed (with her energy, etc).

I hope it's fresher now than when I saw it then.
