She is one of the main reasons that I want to see Hairspray.

she was the worst thing in Hairspray, next to John Travolta.
Her penny was unresearched..and her character made no significant revelations. she only knew how to suck on her lollipop seductively right from the begining. She had no understanding of the character. at all. no quirkyness, or loopiness, no dorkyness,,,nothing.
diana degarmo did, kerry butler did,..even the original film girl did.
amanda bynes was a waste.
(sorry, there...i said it)

I think she did great in the role.
Very held back performance from Amanda- and I think it worked better than had Penny been soooo broad.
I expected her Penny to be EXTREMELY out there- but I was suprised and delighted at her take on Penny.
I agree. I thought she would go all out and crazy with the role and instead presented a very delightful and cute portrait of Penny! I loved her, and was pleasantly surprised that she could sing the way she did
I think the way she played Penny was WONDERFUL... it would have been OBNOXIOUS if she was over the top. For me it was perfect. And yes, I love Amanda Bynes...a lot! :) shes just fabulous.

I'm having a really hard time seeing why this is a problem... :)

Phantom2, are you giving up your love for Tina Maddigan?
I like Amanda Bynes, but I didn't like her Penny. That should be one of the funniest characters in the show, and she became the most forgettable.

Well, she had about 5 lines, so how could she be truly "developed?"
Amanda is adorable.

THey didn't give her nearly enough to do...she was in the background, silent, way too much. She did get off the best line in the movie though.

totally agree with you "on my way" ..I expected so much more from Amanda Bynes. She just kinda melted into the film ,,,scurrying along. I wish she was granted more depth with the role

"I'm having a hard time seeing why this is a problem"....
haha. well.
it just goes to show she is only good at one thing. but truthfully, i just felt she was playing sexy for the camera..and not concentrating on her awkward, funny, SUPPORTING role.
she had 5 lines....make them work. alison janney did.
Amanda was truly forgettable in the movie. she could've ACTED a little more.

She will sell a few tickets to teenagers. That's why she is in the movie. Junior high schoolers care more about Amanda Bynes than they do about Travolta, Walken and Feiffer.

I love Amanda Bynes, I have such a crush on her, and I'm looking forward to seeing her in Hairspray.
She didn't need a lot of dialogue. Amanda has good screen presence and she made up for what little she had to work with with her facial expressions and delivery. I loved her performance. Her singing was very good and fitting of her take on the character as well.
This is a different take than everyone else's. Get used to it.
I think she has very little acting talent, although she does have good comic timing. But she was very forgettable in the movie. Very cute but very forgettable. I'd be lying if I said I didn't like her, but I'd also be lying if I said she is a better performer than your average kid at the community theater. In fact, some are better.

Amanda Bynes ruined my childhood. When she joined the cast of All That her annoying, annoying, annoying characters and inability to be funny ruined the show for me...and SNICK...and forced me to grow up and leave that behind. I'm still bitter about it.
i wasn't really a huge fan, but i just saw hairspray and i LOVED her!
Didn't love her in "Hairspray". Not very memorable at all.
But I did love All That and The Amanda Show.
