I agree with Alan Menken that we'll never know what we missed out of another few decades of Howard Ashman's work... I wish I liked Aladdin on stage more, but I was very underwhelmed.

And sad to say so many others. Think of what Michael Bennett could have still put on a stage. What roles that David Carroll could have performed with that glorious voice. I could continue to list all the voices we lost but lets hope we never forget any of them.

"I hope your Fanny is bigger than my Peter." Mary Martin to Ezio Pinza opening night of Fanny.

So many unknowns.

Would Ashman & Menken have been "monogamous" collaborators, or would they branch out? Would Ashman have taken a big Studio Head-type role at Disney? Would he have had a falling out with Eisner & Katzenberg and been lured elsewhere? Would he return to the theatre frequently or only occasionally? Would have branched out into live-action? Would he direct for the screen, as he did for the stage? Would he become a mogul like ALW and how would that impact his output? Would he lose touch with the audience at some point like Francis Coppola and so many others? Would he have "retired" in his 50s like Tommy Tune? What if he tweeted out bad takes?

I like to think he wouldn't have tolerated the idea of a "Disney Live-Action remake" for a second.

He would have no say in such matters, being that the studio owns all the work. But his interviews surrounding the projects might have been fun.
