Alan Menken & Howard Ashman's "Proud of Your Boy"

I was very pleased to discover that the sheet music to "Proud of Your Boy" was released. I just purchased it from sheetmusicdirect.com and was able to have the MIDI and print it immediately - which works out perfect.

In any case - a brilliant song that was properly cut from the film, and I am very pleased Disney brought it back for the DVD.

Alan Menken is currently working on another film for Disney - I think it's Rapunzel Unbraided. This man has does so much to rebound Disney. Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Hercules, Mulan, and Hunchback of Notre Dame! No wonder Disney has gone downhill from there - they didn't bring Menken back to do their films.

Hopefully this Rapunzel film will give 'em another rebound.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

This is a beautiful song. Wish they could've fit it in somehow. I think Aladdin still could've sung it to his deceased mother and father.

The sheet music has been around for a long time in The Alan Menken Songbook.

Love this song.

I'll just have to purchase this songbook, then.

Stick - that you in your avatar?

But his father isn't dead... re: Alan Menken & Howard Ashman's 'Proud of Your Boy'

Sorry, I'm the geek that's seen all 3 movies.

I won't watch anything released direct to video, so to me, he is still dead.

I LOVE THIS SONG. You know, there are some times where I vehemently wish I wasn't a girl and this is one of those times. I would kill to sing this song!
"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."

The third Aladdin is great!
Love it!

The second sucks.

And, Capn, it is.

Producersfan I was gonna say the same thing! I'm glad I am not the only dork who watches the sequels! I have to say the 3rd one was the better than the 2nd as well. I have a Disney princess book and it has Out of Thin Air (love that song!) and Forget ABout Love from the 2nd movie.

This is a great song that would fit perfectly into Newsies if they did it on Broadway, which I am TOTALLY rooting for, bringing some more guy roles to broadway!

Next is The Apprentice Musical. No Joke. It was reported in Entertainment Weekly!

Priest, the second one sucks because Robin Williams wasn't in it. re: Alan Menken & Howard Ashman's 'Proud of Your Boy'

it wasn't the fact that robin wasn't in it...the story basically sucked. I think Dan Castanella did an excellent job at imitating Robin's voice, he also did it for the tv show. sure it's not "Robin" but I think it passes enough.

I actually liked the story. BUT, he was no Robin.

re: Alan Menken & Howard Ashman's 'Proud of Your Boy'

I also don't think Alan Menken is doing Rapunzel Unbraided, which will involve Kristin Chenoweth. I think the songs are by Jeanine Tesori and Alexa Junge. I could be wrong, if I am correct me, but I'm almost positive it's not Alan.

He was working on a live-action/animation film called Enchanted, but I think that has been postponed indefinitely. His next film is The Shaggy Dog, I believe he's just doing underscore for that. He came to a class of mine at NYU and mentioned Sister Act and Leap of Faith, and he played a song after the class that I believe was from Leap of Faith. Other than that, he had The Ballad of Little Pinks a little while back, as well as a version of Lysistrata with David Zippel and Larry Gelbart that was rejected. I think he's also planning a show with those men about Busby Berkeley, but I haven't heard any real concrete plans about that show. Other than that, he's written new songs for The Little Mermaid, and is hoping to revise some past shows of his (Duddy Kravitz, King David, maybe even Kicks).

"Enchanted" is what I was thinking of - not Rapunzel.

ENCHANTED is still in the works. It's in pre-production for a late 2006/early 2007 release.
