re: Alan Menken & Howard Ashman's 'Proud of Your Boy'

I thought Menken only did ONE song for "Home On The Range" - which was "Little Patch of Heaven."
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

re: Alan Menken & Howard Ashman's 'Proud of Your Boy'

Aaah! I'm such a huge Alan Menken fan! I went out and bought the Aladdin DVD the day it came out, and then I found that Clay Aiken song (aaah! again!! I love clay!). "Proud of Your Boy" is such a wonderful song, and although I do love Clay, I really want to hear Brad Kane sing it. Anyways, I was in the city last weekend at the Drama Book Shop and I picked up a copy of The Alan Menken Songbook - which has "Proud of You Boy" and lots of others, too. As for the other stuff on Menken's movies, I hope he does more with Disney - only like a good old fashioned fairytale movie. Those are the best!

yeah he did Home on the Range...but it wasn't like close to his best scores that he has written. I guess I just hated the movie over all...and I am a huge Disney freak. But I too hope he writes more for Disney and I really want Disney to go back to the way it was. Mulan was like the last real Disney animated musical. And I don't like the idea of all the movies in 3D! Darn you Michael Eisner!!
