Is Alex's final performance in Les Mis this Saturday night? I thought it was, but someone just told me otherwise, so I wanted to clarify. Thanks!
Not sure of his final night. But Drew starts on Monday. Whoo-hoo!
Alex's final performance is Saturday July 21st.
I made sure I got my tickets to see him one more time before he leaves the show. I am going tomorrow night Friday July 20th to get spit on one last time
Got to love the Alex!
There are tons more people who are excited about Drew starting on Tuesday than there are people who care that Alex is leaving tomorrow. Damn it that he's not as 'cute' as Drew.
With that said though, is anyone planning on seeing Alex's last? I want to go.
I care that Alex is leaving.
A talented man. Loved him in Assassins and Sweeney.
I don't think it's that Alex is not cute, it's that his portrayal has become awfully strange.
Alex is WAY cuter than Drew.
I'm possibly in a minority here... but I don't enjoy looking at Drew's face as much as Alex's.
Anyway. ^_^
Mwah. What do you mean exactly by 'awfully strange'? I never noticed anything noticeably weird, and I thought what he did with the role was really refreshing. Even so, he stopped doing the OCD tick thing back in like, February, and he even toned the ADD stuff way down.
And come on, it's always about the cuteness in the end. I mean for example, really, he doesn't spit as much as Drew or Cerveris or Groff, and people are always mentioning that they were so grossed out by Alex's spit showers, it's like, 'Jeebus people, if it was Drew spraying all over you it would be a totally different story'. But with that said, I've always thought that Alex is gorgeous. :) He's got a really great face.
So I guess no one went to Les Miz tonight. Oh well.
I saw him in May and thought he played Valjean like he had Asperger's, plus he did some really strange Elphaba-like hand motions both in the prologue ("drink from the pool...") and Bring Him Home. I especially hated his hysterical giggle right before Who Am I and his attempt at a retroactive Tony nomination during Bring Him Home by pretending to choke up.
I really only enjoyed him in the finale. (Not just because the show was almost over.) The rest of the performance was either tolerable or "WTF."

... "WTF."
"Pretending" to choke up! WTF, right back at ya.
I'm not an actor, but I believe it's called acting.
You know. Like Lea faking a cough so we'll think maybe her charactor is sick with T.B. or something. Or Daphne acting like she's sick with T.B. or on dope or something.
Or even Grantaire acting like he's off the wall (or up the wall if you will) after his young friend is killed.
I guess you're just expressing your opinion, and I would imagine that your more expert opinion in these matters is definitely not less valid than my own, but really ...
Your negativity towards Alex in this production seems as shifted as others' positive attitudes towards Daphne's performances.
I've sat in the front row for many of Alex's performances, and I've learned these two things: One, he is not the biggest sprayer; and Two, It probably wouldn't help to spit back. Sometimes the thing to do is just look the guy in the eye and keep your mouth shut.
p.s. Thank you Alex for nine wonderful months. Best wishes for the future.

No, no, it was REALLY fake. There's actual choking up and then there's "please hire me for Passions."
I would rather catch a bucketful of Alex's spit in my mouth then ever sit through, say, a single spit shower of Cerveris' ever again. I wanted to douse myself with bleach and valtrex after him. And Drew's comes out in really thick droolish form which is not a good thing either.
Ok, I can't believe I just wrote that. I've got me a problem.
Anyway, Alex told my friend that he's excited about taking some time off to relax and plan his wedding and also he's got work lined up in California, so he'll be coming our way in the near future. :)
Wooooooo!
