If forced to choose.

Emily

I find her tone is more soothing and Alice gets VERY screachy in her high belt.

But i love them both!

Yeah, Pat...She was in all three times I saw The Full Monty (well, until she left officially shortly before the last show) and in My Life with Albertine...I'm 4 for 4, so if there are any Emily lovers out there, you best go w/ me to see her in a show! re: Alice or Emily

Ironically enough, I LOVE Alice, but I've never had a chance to see her in a show...though I've seen her in concert w/ her solo stuff bunches of times.

Ripley's solo album is AMAZING.

I absolutely adore Everything's Fine, and her newer stuff (including the EP) with Ripley the Band is great too. Total 180 degree turn from the folk/acoustic EF stuff, but great nonetheless!

I used to feel like Emily was the better actress, until I found myself feeling like everytime I saw her on stage, I was watching... Emily. Everytime I see Alice on stage, I see someone different. There's something special about each and every one of her characters and it's never the same.

Emily, on the other hand, possesses qualities that lend more toward "star power". Unfortunately, she doesn't possess the professional qualities to get herself there at this point.

Their voices are like night and day. I don't think it fair to compare the two. Everyone will have their preference, just because everyone likes a different sound. I happen to enjoy both sounds equally as much as the other.

And wow, Mabel, you were at all three performances of Full Monty that Emily showed up for? Are you Ms. Skinner herself? :)

Agreed. Exhibit A: The Baker's Wife. So different, but still perfection.

Mabel, the new RIPLEY cd should be out soon. They're out in Cali doing some stuff with the band. It would appear the Red Lion won't be seeing them for a good year or so.

What a pisser that they're away and we'll be sans concerts for so long. re: Alice or Emily

And yeah...I still can't believe I saw her all those times in The Full Monty. Two of the times it was with a friend who had seen the show about 4 or 5 times before we went together, and I think the only times she saw Emily were those two times we went together! *shrug*

Or you could look at it as a good excuse to take a trip out to Cali? :)
