All Shook Up 3/20 - short review

Posted: 3/20/05 at 7:55pmSaw the 3 pm performance. Neil Patrick Harris in audience. Sat in first row (don't sit in first row, it's too close and you can't see some stuff). Didn't know what to expect - I bought these tickets when I thought Jarrod Emick (from Boy From Oz) was supposed to be the lead. Place was packed. Thought it was MUCH better than Good Vibrations, and I actually enjoyed Good Vibrations. Excellent cast/voices/lighting/scenery, everthing actually. I'd definetly bet on a Tony nomination for Cheyenne Jackson, he was excellent in the part and really stood out. The rest of the cast was also excellent, obviously Broadway veterans. I'm not a big Elvis fan, but you don't need to be to really enjoy this one. So far of all the plays I've seen so far this season (quite a few, wife and I go a lot), there's only 2 I'd recommend at this point (seeing Spamalot on Tuesday, so not sure about it it) - those two being Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and All Shook Up. Go see it!!!

I saw the show last week and LOVED it. I've seen every musical that's opened so far this season and it's my favorite (after DRS).
If you don't know Elvis songs you would never even know that it's a jukebox musical. So all of you jukebox skeptics - give it a chance!

Posted: 3/21/05 at 1:06pmOnce again I agree with everything being said, and I am sooo glad that this show is getting a good response!!! Most of the Elvis songs used in the show are the lesser heard songs, including one unreleased song, and honestly, I couldn't tell it was an Elvis musical, except for like, five or six songs. I love all of the great feedback and it's great that people are liking this. The audiences REALLY get into it and the standing ovations are VERY well deserved! I saw it on a Thursday night, and it was PACKED... and the crowd went crazy over everything. I'm happy for the cast/crew.
