manley pope got the part over matt cavenaugh for the lead. as of now the plan is to take the entire goodspeed cast to bway. rehearsals start april 12th

I thought the Chicago run would be with Jarrod Emick.

Producer Jonathan Pollard told the Times All Shook Up is a musical comedy about "a magical jukebox and a leather-jacketed stranger" and the impact they have on a "loveless town."
Ok first if that IS the premise...isn't that like the book to WWRY?? I am assuming manley would be the leather-jacketd stranger?

Wow, that's the best they could do? Manley Pope????? Must be another Telsey "special". I can't think of anyone more untalented and more un "Elvislike". I'd rather watch paint dry.

manley does do an uncanny elvis but they are not doing it as an elvis impersonation

Here is a playbill article. If they plan on making it a musical jukebox thing....i do not know. I mean I think his music will be awesome and make people like it, but I think the concept will be far fecthed...

farfetched? i agree! why dont they do more sensible shows? maybe something with singing cats, or a love story about trains? or even a show about a person with green skin and monkeys that fly. those would certainly be more grounded and suitable to my tastes.

I knew that would get a dig... I hear ya...BUT I think of we will rock you, when I hear of this. The concepts are similar i feel. I like to listen to the cast recording, they are amazing..BUT I might not see the show if it came to New york cause the book sounds HORRIBLE. That is just my opinion on that. I am just hoping they will do this justice.

Well, I have - went to the workshops at the Westside. The best new musical I've seen since "Hairspray" (after that one was reworked with new book and direction) - and that includes BFO with Jackman...hilariously funny, loads of great music, has nothing whatsoever to do with Elvis (although I guess if it had been done as a film years ago, Elvis could have taken the lead).
Don't really agree with this new casting. Manley is wrong for the role when compared to Emick who nailed it completely in the workshop (technically, it was a staged reading)- but certainly am willing to give Pope a chance to prove himself. A lot depends on whether or not Manley gets bored - if he does, he acts like a tree stump...conversely, when he's "on", he's really "on".
You can be sure if this cast doesn't work out well at Goodspeed, then as originally stated, they will be replaced for Broadway edition with new actors just as ALL the casting notices specified. If they are great, then why not rehire them for Chicago and Broadway anyway?...it's only logical.
Again, people are routinely replaced during out of town tryouts, let alone totally separate earlier pre-Broadway tryout productions as this one is.
