But this show isn't about "rocking"...it is NOT an Elvis musical...the music taken out of their original Elvis context is QUITE different.

And....can Manley tear your heart out with a ballad like Jarrod did in the readings??

Even the kid who played Manley's role in the recent London revival of "Rent" at the Prince of Wales ran rings around him in the acting department...bringing the character to life more than Manley ever did (oh well...maybe at the beginning of his long run Manley showed some acting chops - but towards the end...??????)

anybody who has seen any of manleys shows down at the cutting room knows that he can tear your heart out with a ballad.

Issa...somehow it doesn't seem that the 2 of us can change LocalOne's opinions on Manley versus Jarrod. Oh well! Ya can't change everyone!

I saw him at the Cutting Room. It was one of the dullest performances I've ever seen.

I'm sure that Jarrod will be back in by the time it reaches Broadway.

I've seen Manley do ballads. My heart is still in its regular place.

But am eager to see what he does with this role since he is probably the LAST person I would have cast in it.

Another problem is that Celia is tied to "Light/Piazza" and so probably would not re-create her role when "All Shook Up" gets to Broadway...and she was SIMPLY spectacular in it during the workshop.

the producers of the off-broadway production of raisin in the sun have booked the Shubert Theater starting in April. Guess the gypsy folk realize its not gonna run after bernadette leaves.

Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but I don't think "A Raisin in the Sun" is going into *THE* Shubert Theatre. I think it's one of the Shubert theatres, but NOT the one that "Gypsy" is in now. Can anyone clarify this?

I saw Manley Pope as Roger the first time I saw Rent. He was positively awful and looked so bored, I was really disappointed. I'd like to give him another chance as I've heard he was great when he first got the role, though.

And THAT is the entire story of Manley - when he's bored, YOU know it...and this is not a good thing for an actor. He is more a rock star and considering he wanted to spend time on that part of his career (plus do the Hollywood thing), his doing this new show is something of a surprise.

Sorry, I still have the image of Jarrod when he did the role and he was so completely perfect and so totally goofy & funny that I can't see Manley duplicating that impact. (Actually, I have seen Manley act goofy - just not on stage).
