Hi all
going to see Altar Boyz in a a few weeks- was it as great as I have heard it is? Can't wait :)

Yup- that is a pic of Cheyenne- isn't a good one- I love that is a real pic of him just hanging out.

haha you'll love it! and i'll probably be there since i'm going multiple times a week now when school let out...LOL!! i can't wait to hear what you think. it is EVERYTHING good that people have been saying and then some.
since it was posted in the other thread...bit of sad news: Tyler Maynard will not be renewing his contract so he will be leaving the show mid July. everyone please try to make it before he leaves! i can't even begin to convey what a loss this will be for the show but he's going on to bigger and better things so we will (eventually) all wipe our tears and wish him the best!! (and of course, flood the audience of his new show)

OK, I played this CD in my car today and almost wrecked my car I was laughing so hard. Oh my...um..well...GOD! The parody of "boy bands" is so perfect it's hard to believe. I have so many favorite lines, but here are a couple:
From "The Miracle Song":
JC (feeling sorry 'cause he knew that leprosy is
A whack disease that makes a homey go to pieces)
Reached out his hand and touched him (ew!)
"I am willing. Be cleansed!" He said - and it worked too!
From "Rhythm In Me":

This show has gone to the top of my list of ones I want to see!

Posted: 6/11/05 at 12:46amEh, not to be a party pooper but...I just saw it last night and am not quite understanding ALL the hype about it. Yes, it is very cute and yes some parts of it are very ingenious ---then again, some parts are very sacreligous as well and entirely toooooo gay. Not that gay is a bad thing, but compared to La Cage Aux Folles or Bernadette Peters in Gypsy this just oozes gay in a while new way that was WAY too much for me.

Oh Elle (popular_elphie), please get your ass here before July 10th so I can take you to see Tyler and introduce you to Daniel. Because they are adorable and you are adorable and therefore you will all love each other because of the adorableness.
I absolutely adore this show, as I'm sure plenty of people have picked up on. When I see it tomorrow night, I'll have seen it 8 times, and I really don't think I could get bored of it. I sit there, and I pick up on something new every single time. I've never been a fan of a show before where all I do, the entire time I'm in the theatre, is smile. That, paired with the fact that the five guys in the show (as well as the two understudies) are hands down the nicest people I've ever had the chance to get to know in theatre.

Ok, first of all, way to miss the point of the WHOLE SHOW. And secondly, you don't think La Cage is too gay but Altar Boyz is? What the?
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Ahh, ChrisLovesShows, that's my favorite verse of The Miracle Song as well. Sadly, though, that's actually NOT in the show. It was in previous workshops, but was taken out to include more references to The Soul Sensor, a plot point of the show. However, the Soul Sensor references wouldn't have made sense on the CD, so it was put back in for that.
Also, Andy Karl was crazy out of breath by that point in the song, so the entire verse was him gasping for air. He spends the entire song dancing his ass off, and by that point he just couldn't rap it. Heh. It's probably better off that they took it out, for Andy's sake.

I definitely wondered about the sound of the show live vs. the CD, since they put in a lot of synthesizer/voice box stuff on the CD to imitate/parody the boy bands.
Is it all sung live during the show, or do they use "sweetners?"

All live. They're constantly asked if they use sweeteners, but from what I can tell and from what I've been told, its all them, all live.

Posted: 6/13/05 at 10:38amso i've been away for the weekend and so that's why i'm bumping all of these Altar Boyz threads because i just bumped into them. La Cage i replied to your earlier so i'll hold back my ranting for now. Chris, you haven't seen the show yet? get ye to Dogder stages! LOL!! all the singing is live and the sound is quite a bit different from the extra synthesizers on the CD which have come under a lot of criticism lately...

LaCage, what precisely is "Gay" about Bernadetter Peters in Gypsy? Maybe I missed something-- could you please fill me in?
And I love Epiphany- the mention of the Holy Trinity with the backup boys doing that great "One, Two, Three!" And while it's hard to pick on line out of those great lyrics, this line from "Jesus called me on my Cell Phone" would be up there: 'He beeped me, he faxed me, he e-mailed my soul!"

no but Tyler Maynard from the original cast (Mark) is leaving the show July 10th and Daniel Torres, the understudy and dance captain is also leaving the same day. i would recommend you try to get here before that. the cast's contracts run out in august and they all may get better offers and "break up" the original band as it were. this is just speculation because i only know about Tyler and Daniel for sure but you know, all kinds of things could happen.
