Altar Boyz? (and a couple of other questions)

This is one of the few long-running shows I haven't seen and I'm wondering if it's a good one to recommend for a (hip) grandmother and her 14-year grandson who will be visiting the city this summer.

Curtains and Hairspray are my other thoughts, but if anyone has other suggestions for that particular demographic (grandmother and teen-age grandson), please tell me.

Oh, and Lion King. Which I think the grandson wants to see. I've seen LK twice, both times in the orchestra, once at New Amsterdam, once at Minskoff... I'm all for saving money and sitting further back as necessary, but I'm wondering if that's not such a good idea in this case, given the size of the Minskoff and the things that happen in the orchestra aisles. Has anyone sat that far up at the Minskoff for Lion King (or anything else)?

I saw Altar Boyz when I was 13 and none of the jokes went over my head. I saw it again this year and nothing was new to me. I'm sure he'll get it and enjoy it.

There was a grandmother and teenage grandson sitting behind me two weeks ago at In the Heights who spent all of intermission on their cell phones telling whoever how much they were enjoying it, how glad they were that TKTS was out of Spamalot and so they tried Heights instead, etc. It was very cute. I would totally recommend Heights for you.

I'm in a minority that I didn't like "The Lion King," but I'm a huge "Hairspray" and "Altar Boyz" fan. The first is non-stop energy, the second a very funny, very clever way to pass 90 minutes.

My 14-year-old son was DRAGGED in to see Altar Boyz - (he is missing the MT gene.) He fought it for a while, but was laughing out loud long before it ended. So, even if the grandson is not a "theater kid" they should have a good time.
