We're singing this song in chorus, and on the sheet music, it says "Broadway's Greatest".. does anyone know what show this song was from?

I could be wrong (and I'm sure I'll be ruthlessly corrected if I am), but I don't think it's actually in a show. It's on the Emily Skinner/Alice Ripley CD, Unsuspecting Hearts, that they released after Side Show.
Isn't that a song by Marcy Heisler/Zina Goldrich?
no idea what show it's from though... =(

not from a show, dotmarie has the correct composers though...
"and now for a medley of some of my finer roles..."
I must say I adore Heisler/Goldrich! They are ALWAYS 100% original. What we really need is a Marcy & Zina compilation CD of all their songs...get a bunch of Broadway performers to sing them and wha-lah! There ya have it.

I used to know what it's from...but I can't remember now. But I love the song! Even if I'm not an alto, I still love it.
OMG..i need this sheet music sooo bad... Does anyone have the solo form..or know where to get it?
"Please give me a chance to sing melody.." that one right?

HMMM and where might one find this songbook?

Colony and other fine music retailers, I suppose. Try Amazon or Sunhawk.com or Sheetmusicdirect.com or one of those.

I have the sheet music somewhere, lingering about...
I believe you'll have to contact Marcy or Zina... it's kind of a hard one to get otherwise... I had lost my copy a few years ago... and had the damnedest time getting another.

Anybody have the lyrics to this? I'd love to read them.
Alto's Lament is not available in the Heisler and Goldrich songbook. I believe you have to e-mail a request to them via their site to get it.
go to goldrichandheisler.com - I don't think it's from a show, although it says something about it not being available to perform but i don't get it...anyway it's all on their official site! i love this song!! and taylor the latte boy!!!
Yeah, the only (or at least easiest) way to get the music is to get it through their website or e-mail them. My sister e-mailed them asking for music about a year ago and they were really lovely, sent over their cabaret sampler CDs as well.

Was it really necessary to tell us SIX YEARS LATER that it is on Musicnotes?
By this time, almost every musical theatre enthusiast probably has an electronic copy of it.

Well, better late than never!
This song and "Taylor, the Latte Boy" should be taken to a dark forest and shot.

....by somebody who works for Starbucks!

Taylor the Latte Boy is every Upper West Side woman's sick fantasy song.
Sitting around drinking lattes while the husband is at work and the kids are in private school.
Racist - I'm surprised they get away with calling a Starbucks worker "boy".
Bossy Narcissist - Bring me this, bring me that, peel me a grape, hurry up, don't you know how important I am
Delusional - You think Taylor the boy is going to support your coffee addiction on a Starbuck's salary? He'll have to become an escort to do that.
Drug addicted - a triple latte at 8:11 in the morning? You know by 11 you're going to crash when the caffeine leaves your body
Needy - you think a guy's in love just because he gives you extra foam?
Delusional - you've waited years for love and then all of sudden you find it in some young teenager working in a Starbucks? Just wait Mildred Fierce, some young daughter of your best friend will come along and steal him away from you.

Taylor the Latte Boy is what the singers who perform "The Christmas Shoes" sing for the other eleven months of the year.
Does anybody know where I can get a copy of "Alto's Lament?" Thanks
