EXACTLY Matt, its a show BY and STARRING latinos but it is not a show JUST FOR latinos.

according to the logic of those two jackasses at broadwaysecrets, only black people can appreciate The color Purple and The Wiz, Only poor AIDS victims can appreciate Rent, only russian jews can appreciate Fiddler, only drag queens can appreciate La Cage, only jazz love murderers can appreciate Chicago, Only witches can appreciate Appreciate Wicked, only an ammalgamation of reanimated corpses can appreciate Young Frankenstein (well that might actually be true) and only Frankie Valli can appreciate Jersey Boys.

I'm a latino...

I think the show rocks. My friend's aren't latino and they were upset because the spanish lyrics aren't translated. I told them it was because the lyrics weren't THAT important. Besides, if you think about, you get what they mean, it's not like it's a drawn out conversation or anything.

Jeez, Wicked has more racial themes than In The Heights.

But, I guess I should stop associating myself with that show because I'm not a Witch and therefore can not understand the struggles of a green person.

On a slightly more serious note, I get where this is coming from and I second pretty much everything that has been said here.

However, without going into uber-race debate...I can see how middle class, mostly white, non-Washington Heights folks quoting the show would be annoying to those who have lived and/or appreciate the shows setting, but it's not racist at all. Them quoting, as naive as it might be to you, is in no way 'dissing' the culture or doing anything but praising it. When people of any culture get too protective of themselves it does nothing but make the barriers between different cultures more prominent, ie stop assuming everything a white person does or says is intended to be racist and causing issues out of nothing, just because they are not Latino, Black, Asian whatever.

Plus, being Latino is the only minority now? Good to know.
