I went to the mall today, and my local Sam Goody is going out of business, and has been having an ongoing sale. Now that there was only 6 days left before it closes, it had everything on sale for 70% off....there were only 3 cast recordings left in the store, so I bought them. I went to the register with Whistle Down the Wind, Taboo, and Woman in White.....Taboo rang up $5.09, Woman in White rang up $6.30, and Whistle Down the Wind rang up at $0.00!!!! I was so excited....so it cost me $12.39 with tax for all 3 of these brand new CD's! Anybody else have any similar stories with cast recordings for dirt cheap?

Now if you would tell us where this Sam Goody's is located, those of us who lived nearby could take advantage of the bargains.

It's in Roosevelt Field Mall, but they only have "The Woman in White" left....and there are foreign movies and music left...that's about it.
Awww, Horton. Let Kicks make up their mind. I adore Taboo, and paid much more than 5 bucks for it and consider it to be one of my best purchases.
Wow, I really should've gone to my Sam Goody before they closed.
I really like the music from "Taboo". You got a great deal.
Wow! That is a great deal. Good job!

I liked "Taboo" as well (still hate "Lestat", though).

Are all Sam Goody's closing?
I'm not sure, but I swear I heard that somewhere? I know the one in the mall by me is closing soon.

At the Berkeley Amoeba I got Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Me and My Girl, Titanic and The Full Monty for $1.99 each, but 3 get one free. I mean, they were used, but near perfect condition.

Well if they are, I'll go take a look at the ones by me.
Marshmallow, another "YAY" here for Amoeba. :) I got The Fix at the location near Golden Gate Park, and the Berkeley one is pretty awesome, too.
Both the Sam Goody and the Suncoast near me (Mill Creek Mall) have gone out of business, as well as the two in Garden State Plaza (in Paramus). But I'm told the one in Wayne, NJ is staying open, although most are going out... I want to say it's a bankruptcy thing, but I'm not 100%. All I know is, I picked up Murder By Death, Dogma, The Sure Thing, SLC Punk (for Adam, of course!), and two Dark Shadows boxed sets. My regret? That I didn't pick up My Left Foot, Kindergarten Cop, and Labyrinth when I had the chance. I'm in class now, and I'm *so* stopping by on my way home to see if there's anything decent at Sam Goody.

Oooh, I shop there! Yea, I bought the Studio Cast as it's labeled of J/H, the glue was so dry on the iside, crap was falling out. I swear it was there since 98' or w/e the CD came out!
SAM GOODY is owned by the same parent company (Musicland) that also owned and operated MEDIA PLAY. That chain that was closed down earlier this year, so it is possible the SAM GOODY chain might be going under as well. A shame.
Years ago the SAM GOODY stores were THE place to get the lastest releases and their main store near Radio City Music Hall was well stocked with back-catalogue items. They also had great "delete" sales...I remember finding a stack of Decca's SWEET CHARITY movie soundtrack albums for 69 cents each when I first visited the store in 1977.

and do a search on the key word "broadway." You will find many of the European Prism label releases for $2.99 each including the OCR's of OKLAHOMA!, CAROUSEl, THE KING AND I, SHOW BOAT (1928 London & 1946 Broadway together on once CD!); ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, KISS ME KATE, GUYS AND DOLLS and more.
This outlet gets stock in all the time so it is worth checking on a regular basis. (At one time a few years back they had a huge surpluss of the OBC 2 CD RENT sets...for $6.99 each, so it isn't just older titles they get.)
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
The Sam Goody near me went out of business right after Christmas and I spent about $150 there one day, but I literally got a cart load of stuff including the cast recordings of LSOH (revival), You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (revival), Wicked, and Beauty & The Beast.
Yeah, I got "Whistle Down the Wind" for about $3 (which I love thank you very much)
