Like myself, I've often heard comments like: "Wow, she's so tiny, how could she sing so well? How could a big sound like that come out of a little woman like her?"
I've noticed that a lot of Broadway leading ladies are pretty tiny. People always say how short they are in real life.
Are there any notably tall ladies on Broadway?
Isn't Sutton pretty sizable?
Kerry Butler is pretty short. During LSOH she looked so tall on stage, but when i met her at the stage door, she was so short (but cute ).
Jennifer Cody is pretty short too.
I think (s)he was asking for tall women on Broadway. Jennifer Laura Thompson is fairly tall.
whoops...misread.
Ummm...you're not seriously starting a THREAD about this...not...seriously...
How about a thread called, Amazing but brunette women on Broadway. or Amazing but blue-eyed women on Broadway. They would be just as relevant - which is to say, not at all. What does someone's height have to do with their talent? Whether they are singers, actors, or doctors?

Why start a thread asking about tall leading ladies...then call it "amazing but short women on Broadway?" Is there some subtlety I'm not grasping here?
Actually JoizeyActor, almost all of the leading ladies I know of are on the tall side---and this is a really dumb topic.
But I answered it, so I retract that comment.
Now that you've edited your first post, I still find the whole thing irrelevant. Someone's size has nothing to do with the "size" of their voice. This is coming from a 5'0" singer who never, EVER understood that point of view. Your height has nothing to do with your voice. End of story.

kristin chenoweth, kerry butler,...there are many others. it really doesn't matter how tall or short you are though.
I'm amazing. I'm short. I'm on Broadway right at this very moment.
<-- Goes to Columbia - it's between B'way and Amsterdam.
Sorry, I had to.

You want an all time classic short gal with a huge voice? Alice Playten.
Cathy Rigby
Sutton Foster is a bit tall.
Sigh. Silly people.
I'm not saying that they are bad singers because they are short. It's just that I think that most people don't expect these short people to create such a big sounds. I suppose they are assuming that only a large person can create such loud noises.
I'm just pointing out what I've heard. Even on this board people are always saying: "I can't believe she was so small!"
Almost all the leading ladies I've met have all been relatively short in stature. It's just something I've noticed.
And I'm sorry Rathnait62 and Littlefish that my posts aren't UNBEARABLY stimulating like discussions of who will take over Elphaba or which Broadway star is absent this week.
Oi vey.
lol, I like the amazing *but* short. it almost sounds like amazing is the opposite of short now.
This thread is so unecessary but just to clarify, it's not exactly justified to put Kerry Butler and Orfeh in a thread with Cheno and Jibson and Cody. While Butler and Orfeh may not be as statuesque as Foster and Huffman, they tower over the "munchkinlanders" like Cheno, et al. And I'm with Raith, here's an area where size is of no relevance whatsoever... The ones that are "awesome and amazing", are awesome and amazing just because they are. Height, or lack thereof, has less than nothing to do with it.

well stated, Al.
Sarah Gettelfinger is a tall drink of water at 6'0". cady Huffman's first replacement as Ulla towered above 6'0" I believe..
Not to mention the current obsessions, Menzel and Espinosa are both under 5'6", hardly catwalk material. But I've already said more than this topic *deserves*.
