I'd kill to see Kelly Calrkson play Maureen in RENT...girl has got lungs of STEEL!

swifty - i agree with you, i'd be interested to see carrie underwood as amber in hairspray.
clay aiken might make an interesting mark in rent...just a thought. and kelly clarkson as elphaba, perhaps?
Please, Clay is better suited to Nessa than anything else.
And Kelly Clarkson while an excellent singer couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag with a hole torn in it. I know most of us have blocked it out but all we have to do is revisit From Justin to Kelly and you will see.

Elliott Yamin should play Fiyero in Wicked. Mario Vasquez should play Simba in Lion King. Kathrine McPhee could play anything. my list includes Eponine, Elphaba, Lady Of The Lake, Belle, and Mary Poppins
ooh i'd love to see katherine mcphee as eponine...good call
Well; of course there's Diana DeGarmo who surprised many of us with her turn in Hairspray. I think Jennifer Hudson needs to get on the Broadway train and do something after Dreamgirls is released etc. Katherine McPhee I could see as Lady of the Lake maybe, not sure if she's funny enough for it though. I'd prefer to see working actors take these roles but it is a business and if putting an American Idol contestant with talent means gettin' butts in the seats I'm for it.
Cheers,
Christopher
I love Elliot, but because he's very introverted, there are few roles I could envision him playing well, including Fiyero.

I think Diana DeGarmo could be a good Elphaba.

Well, to be fair, I don't think even Meryl Streep could have made anything decent out of that script. Kelly may not be able to act well, but, i'd be willing to give her a shot in a decent show/movie to see what she could really do. I have faith she could be an amazing Maureen.
Clay Aiken can't sing the most serious song ever written without that smarmy "Yeah, aren't I awesome???" grin on his face from beginning to end. There's his acting skill for ya.

I wish them well in their careers and all but please god let them never be on Broadway. EDIT: Unless they can act.
It's been said in this thread: does acting even _matter_ anymore?

I don't think American Idol contestants can do very well on Broadway. However, I did see a clip of Katherine McPhee doing "You Could Drive a Person Crazy" with two other girls and she was quite good. I believe she had the solo in the middle, though I'm not sure. If she were allowed out of that American Idol style moaning, perhaps she'd do well.

In fairness to Diana DeGarmo, she should almost be exempt from this conversation at this point. After a year in musical theatre doing three diverse roles she is more of a "Broadway actress who started on American Idol" rather than "An American Idol contestant on Broadway." She's got West Side Story, Brooklyn and two stints in Hairspray under her belt so she's definitely proven herself worthy.

I just saw Kelly Clarkson performing at the Tony Bennett Birthday Party at The Kodak Theater. This girl has to do Broadway some day. That voice is just unbelievable and I was amazed at how effortlessly she was able to ease into this genre. If you get a chance, check out the audio on one of her fan sites. It is amazing and worth the effort. I don't think I can post the link here, or I would.
eta: She sang Because of You and It's Alright With Me.

AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
This makes me crazy. Being on American Idol does not automatically make you a gifted actor. Why are we constantly lowering the standards of this entity? Broadway was once this elite group of people who had to do anything and everything to land on that stage, and now...it seems that all you have to do is go on American Idol in L.A. and you instantly get considered for a major Broadway show across the country. I dont understand the logic.
THIS DOES NOT IN ANY WAY DISCREDIT THE MANY TALENTED PEOPLE WHO MADE IT ON THEIR OWN. I BOW DOWN TO ALL OF YOU.
EDIT POST:
BUT, if we are so hell bent on getting new faces on the Broadway stage, STEP UP television...No more just Grease! and FAME (yikes)...let's have a REAL Broadway Idol show.

I would LOVE to see Katherine as either Belle or Elphaba :) I dont know why, but I just REALLY think she's probably an amazing actress. I just get that impression. Which is why I think she's most fitting for broadway
Kelly WOULD be rather kick ass as maureen in RENT.. though, the problem is there are other broadway people I'd rather see do it first than her I still need a time machine to go back and see Amy Spanger do it.. hehe. And felicia finley NEEDS to get her butt in that show after ws ends
I would LOVE to see Carrie Underwood on broadway, but I'm not really sure in what... I know she's country and everything, but I def think she could tone that down a lot if she wanted/needed to for a show. But yeah, the girl needs to be on broadway in SOMETHING, because she has a stellar voice :)
Bravo, Matthius!!!

*Bows*.....*Gets hit by a bouquet of flowers and passes out*
Unless they can act, I don't want to see them in a Broadway show. Just like any other performer, celebrity or not.
