Make sure you see this one! A really great production and cast!
Yes. A great play. I really think this will be a big hit on Broadway and the Friedman is the perfect theatre for it.
I... really really feel like the only person in the world who wasn't totally captivated by this play. XD I'm glad you're getting the original cast, because they were excellent, and the Pitmen Painters themselves were so freakin' interesting. It's these two facts that lift this production; the play taken as a solo entity would be nothing new or exciting. I'll be interested in everyone's responses anyway!
Weez, you aren't alone. While the subject is fascinating and the performances (mostly) fine, it's not a great piece of work, and I have to say I found the ending a terrible let-down. It's a play-by-the-numbers for a more mainstream audience; it will play great in regional rep. My family, none of whom like theatre much, would love this play. For me, I would have preferred a different take.

I have friends in London who have seen it and loved it. Not saying it is the greatest play ever, but a good solid play, and I think there is certainly a place for that.
Upland, you're absolutely right. I'm in the minority about it, but several of my theatre friends had the same reaction as I did. I did like the performances, but afterwards I felt like it was definitely lacking. There is something very amateurish in the writing.
