Any idea of what the nut is for An American in Paris? Since they grossed only 46% of their potential this week, it would be interesting to know if they are really struggling.

It's a big show, but that seems a bit much without any star salaries?
How big is there orchestra?

With these recent numbers, one has to wonder if that renovation of the Palace will be getting started sooner and not later.

I agree with the assessment that their nut is close to 800K. They are definitely struggling, as is Something Rotten. The tour is scheduled to launch this fall, perhaps they will close before then so they can repurpose the set. I think the quality has suffered since the departure of Fairchild- the replacements and understudies are weak tea. They may as well start the renovation. Unless rent can be renegotiated, or there's something about the upcoming reno that somehow allows the landlords to settle for lower rent... this show is toast.

Set may move for London, that's true. But so far they don't have two. They may be building a new, lighter version for tour, but that hasn't happened yet.
Don't think this one will be lasting until March.

Whoops, sorry about the typo. I do know which is which.
Out of curiosity, what makes the nut for this show high? There are no stars and I don't remember the cast to be substantially bigger than other shows...

The cast is big and they have added many swings since opening, too many injuries. Salaries are high because the cast has to get paid extra to move the set around. The orchestra isn't small. And the set seems simple but it's a bit complex. They also had a high advertising budget for a long time- didn't you see all those taxi signs and commercials? Tony nominees all got a salary bump, and three of them are still in the show. It all adds up.

Since AAIP is indeed struggling, when could we see it closing? I would assume that the Nederlanders will want to raise the theatre sooner rather than later. So that puts additional pressure on AAIP. Could it close by the end of the year?

I say most likely is post-holiday, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it close end of summer. As it is they are already pulling the advertising, which is not a great sign.

I was an American in Paris a few years ago and I had two nuts.

Yeah, the term "nut" really has to go.
As does obsessing over any show's financial situations.
