Were any of the new musicals profitable this week? 

Interestingly, Davis is only stepping in from June 16th through July 20th. Unsure who comes in for the remaining two weeks of the run.

In case anyone else is curious… here is what the spotlight booth currently looks like. Looks like they just did patchwork and any further fixes would come at a later date whenever the theatre becomes available for a comprehensive renovation.

Curious where the spotlight operators are working from.

Caught Joy and Jamie’s debut performance Monday evening and they did not disappoint. I’m sure their performances will continue to improve as they get further into their runs. Special shout out to Ruthie Henshall as Fraulein Schneider. She’s giving an impeccable performance.

Re: Dawn French, she attended the show recently. Perhaps scoping the show out to see if she would be a good fit. Kim Cattrall also attended and she would be awesome as Mary’s Chaperone.

Tangentially related, but Flanigan was also the co-GM with MEP for Redwood; until they were both quietly replaced by Alchemy Productions a month prior to the shows sudden closure. MEP/Eva Price was also the lead producer on the show, interestingly.

Re: Eva Price, someone should take a look into the operating expenses for &Juliet. The fact it’s still running with such low grosses… 

Who are the commercial producers for this? ATG? Probably gives an indication for which house it’ll go to, but I hope they wait for a smaller house like the Golden to open.

It’s so tragic, and I’m still seeing her in places. Like, I’m so certain this lady on my flight to the Cayman Islands carrying a large duffle bag of cash was September! Oh, what grief will do to you.

Beginning June 9th the touring company will welcome Aline Mayagoitia as Elphaba, Claudia Bennett as Glinda, Susan Cella as Madame Morrible, Pablo Laucerica as Boq, and Cristina Sastre as Nessarose. 

I can’t take anymore loss this year. My condolences to Davis’ family, friends, and colleagues. Especially, Ms. Ana Gasteyer.

I’m not sure about the contracts with IATSE, AFM, and other theatre workers. Here’s the section regarding cancelled performances in the Actors Equity contract:

51. PERFORMANCES LOST

(A) If the company cannot perform because of fire, accident, strike, riot, Act of God, or the public enemy, which could not be reasonably anticipated or prevented, then the Actor shall not be entitled to any salary for the time during which Actor's services shall not for such reason or reasons be rendered, except:

(1) If the company is away from the Point of Organization, the Actor shall receive one-eighth of minimum salary plus one-seventh of minimum out-of-town expenses for the first day lost and one-seventh of minimum out-of-town expenses for each day on which performances are not given thereafter.

1. (a) The company may add a replacement performance in the same week as the canceled performance without any additional compensation provided the Actors receive no less than 24 hours' notice. If a performance is so scheduled, the Actors' salary and Per Diem will not be reduced for the canceled performance;
2. (b) The company may add a replacement performance in a subsequent week of the same engagement with no less than 72 hours' notice. If a performance is so scheduled, each Actor will be due an additional one-eighth of Actor's contractual salary for that replacement performance and Actor's salary and Per Diem may be reduced for the canceled performance.
3. (c) If a replacement performance is scheduled after the scheduled final performance of the tour, the Producer will reimburse the Actor for any additional travel expenses caused by such scheduling.

(B) Should any of the foregoing conditions continue for a period of 10 days or more, either party may terminate the contract (except on a Term Contract, only the Actor may terminate) and the Producer will pay for all services to date and transportation back to the Point of Organization or the Place of Engagement. (See Rule 72 TRANSPORTATION AND BAGGAGE)

Anyone else remember when the Late Night guys continued to pay their show staffs during the writers strike? It would be nice to see Matt and Trey follow their lead here. 

This new marketing campaign will surely pack in the crowds! 

The Book of Mormon was one of a handful of shows to send out more than one national touring company. I believe the 1st NTs set is being used in Australia and the 2nd NT set was mostly reconfigured for the non-equity tour. I’m unsure what the status of the UK/European tour set is, but I imagine complications like overseas transportation and potential tariffs may not make it worth bringing it over.
