I'm sure he'll be great!
I'm not surprised at all that they are doing this. Though the play itself is far from perfect, it's very entertaining, and it's a great way to show off whichever comedic actor you cast. It seems like the kind of thing they could have kept open for a long time, while frequently switching out the star (a la Hedwig or Love Letters) and keeping the jokes up to date.

Incredibly excited for this - Sean is such a talent - and anything directed by Joe Mantello is always elevated to extraordinary levels. I heard great things about the show out of NYC as well.
For all the bitching and moaning I've done about the lack of a great season at the Ahmanson, once again, they pull out a great surprise - as they have done in seasons past bringing Broadway productions like FOLLIES and BLITHE SPIRT - and heck even that Christopher Plummer one man show a few years ago.

While I will see this, the rumored transfer for an LA season only of Gypsy from London would have been my first choice!
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

Wish Sean Hayes would have done the play here. In that case, I'd have opted to see it. Parsons seems a one-trick pony to me most of the time--the exception being THE NORMAL HEART.

I thought the final show was going to be between Little Dancer, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, or Ragtime. This is such a surprise. I've heard only great things about this play. Can't wait to see it. Sean will be great. I loved him in Promises, Promises.

After months of waiting we finally get an answer on the empty slot in the 2015-2016 CTG/Ahamnson season. I, too, was hoping that the show would be "Little Dancer", "Hedwig" or maybe even "The Visit" or another musical in development (just wishing). And if "Gypsy" really came to LA with Imedla Staunton I would once again bow down at CTG's feet like I did when they brought out "Follies". I can only imagine how difficult it is to find and schedule a show that needs to fit into a narrow window at the beginning of the year. I'm sure CTG pursued a number of options. So "Act of God" with Sean Hayes is a fine choice. And it was one of the shows I decided not to see on my 15 show marathon in New York last spring so I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Interesting that they're going with a type so similar to Parsons - what they might have called "flamboyant" in the 50s or 60s. I don't recall anything in the text that specifies the character must have a queeny persona, but Parson's did generate more laughs than a different type might have (I thought).

Isn't the conceit that God has inhabited the body of a famous person? Jim Parsons isn't playing God, Jim Parsons is playing God in the body of Jim Parsons. If effete-and-quirky-but-not-exactly-flaming worked well for the first major staging, it makes sense they'd look for a different celebrity in that mold.

Saw it with Parsons in NY and won't be bothering to re-visit it in LA.
I felt it was little more than a stand-up routine with fairly obvious jokes. Not terrible, but instantly forgettable. An OK way to kill an evening for $25. At over $100, it's obscenely overpriced.

It's inside The Bridges program (my link) and on the Ahmanson facebook page they dont even include titanic in their banner. They will delete it.. it's not like it was available for tickets at the time.
