Hey guys, I had this musical, and I wanted it to be kind of like a lighter side, rockish musical.
See, the entire thing is just a meeting of a support group for some kind of disease, and then just tell their life stories, each of them reinacting them. Slowly they all stop showing up to the meetings as they all begin to die, and we end the show with them all dead.
What do you think?

sounds like a darker version of Rent.
But Interesting, nonetheless.
Kind of what I was going for, but in the same way, I don't want to copy RENT.

Use Cancer instead of AIDS

NOt to be mean or anything but it sounds like you got this from "Will I" in the movie. It kind of reminds me of A CHORUS LINE.lol! It could be really good though, with the right composer.
Cancer, a good idea. I didn't want to use AIDS, as it is overdone and whatnot.

No offense, but do you really think AIDS is overdone? I mean, it is a terrible disease with no cure that is a pandemic in third world countries, and a terrible problem in even "advanced" countries like ours.

I'm pretty sure that yankeefan meant that AIDS is overdone as a subject for a musical/play. Not the whole AIDS subject.
If you use cancer, it can be cross section of many different types of americans and their relationship with their families. This reminds me, did anyone see that Oprah show with the mother who had cancer and made tapes so her daughter could get to know her after she died? It was so beautifully sad. Something lik that would be great in the musical.

I sobbed during that segment because my mom just beat cancer and it's something that touches SO many people. I think there should be a musical about it.

that sounds REALLY good- and all your harry potter lyrics show you can write - you should try it!! you could be like the next andrew lloyd weber....
DramaDork, I sobbed too. It would make such a good musical. The first act could be the birth of the daughter (a la wicked) the diagnosis and the death.
The second act could be the daughter growing and watching the movies, the father finding a new wife and end with the daughters wedding. that would be so beautiful. And everytime the daughter would put in a movie, the person playing the mom would appear onstage like she was in the movie and sing to her daughter a lesson in her life.

Haha... That would be SO good GClef! What a beautiful musical that would be...
oh you should. You should do both those ideas, and another... and it could be like... a musical trilogy!? Not one recurring story... but a trilogy like Baz Lurhman did with Strictly Ballroom, Romeo and Juliet, and Moulin Rouge. Separate stories, but with a similar message, and a beautiful sisterhood of musicals.

Sounds like a ripoff of RENT. Ok, so maybe Cancer is the new AIDS. (Yes, I did just say that.) But still... same idea. Especially in the way that RENT did the life support disappearing/death sequence.
Why don't you try the opposite and start off with them all dead, with the exception of one person. And maybe they tell the story from their point of view. Something a little bit different. And for your disease why not something a little unorthodox.
You can use Cancer, and if you ever desire to do a Black Revival you can just change it to Sickle Cell, then a tour in Japan with Bird Flu and the list goes on! Think of how all this talk and dying of disease will cheer people up... they will all come out feeling luckier than when they went in!!
