https://www.broadwayworld.com/l.cfm?id=79125 Ana was fantastic in Wicked!! I had no idea when we decided to go to Chicago for the show that she had one of the lead roles. At the theater, when I saw her name in the playbill and pointed it out to my family. We were all excited. Even our 12 year old son knew who she was (from old SNL reruns).
As a huge Les Mis fan I must say that the musical element was not as strong as that show, but then again what is? Ana was a pleasant surprise. Her harmony with Glinda (with and without the "Ga") was great. The writing was hilarious, but her acting ability made the lovable character even more endearing. Kudos!!!
We were all wondering what they did to make her green. Was it make-up all over, a body suit, or a combination? I'd love to hear how she felt about the green.

Do you realize how many Wicked threads there are here, Cosette2?

Now now, let's be nice. Cosette is new here.
Cosette, just for future refrences, try to avvoid any Wicked postings...there was a point when there was NOTHING but Wicked on these boards and it drove many people insane. The first time I posted here...it was not pretty.
I'm glad you enjoyed the show though. I'd die to see Ana in the role. She sounds AMAZING!

OK, please try to post conservatively (did I just make that word up? You get my point...I hope) about Wicked.
PS: I thought that only her face, neck and hands were made green with make-up and that she wore a green body suit. I thought I read that in several articles.
Wonder--you're correct..there is definetly a body suit for the arms..
Oh good! So I'm not as crazy as I thought I was. (no comments please)
Thanks for the polite welcome and the much needed lesson. My apologies for posting to a link I thought was a preexisting thread--oops!
As for my choice in shows, don't I get any credit for stating that I am a huge Les Mis fan? (My children can sing every song without the CD.) I really do appreciate good theatre. But then again silly me I thought this was about Ana and not me?
I love Les Mis<3 And Wicked. So yes, you do, because they're my 2 favorites. Welcome!

Some of you folks truly need to get over yourselves. Why must certain posters be so damn nasty? If you don't like what you consider to be repeat threads, then don't read them for God's sake!

Here Here Sidney! She didn't title her thread "Thoughts On..." If you didn't want to see a thread on Ana Gasteyer, move on.
I thought she was wonderful, too. Best Elphaba in my book. She's getting some RAVE reviews here in Chicago too, so it won't be long before the "Ana Gasteyer She's Over Rated!" Threads start.
So was this your first time seeing Wicked? How much did you know about the show? Sounds like you enjoyed it!
And yes, Elphaba wears green face makeup with a green body suit and gloves.
This was my first time seeing Wicked.
Having lived in Kansas the majority of my life I am more than familiar with the "Sequel." (My avatar is of my husband and I taken while biking across Kansas.) Last year I took my daughter to NYC for her b-day but Wicked was sold out--We saw Sarah Jones instead, and enjoyed her performance immensely. This year when my sister, who lives in Chicago, called and said it was coming we got the tickets.
I knew nothing about the storyline other than it was about the relationship between the witches prior to the Wizard of Oz.
Not trying to be picky. Elphaba's costume consists of the green Chromacake, purple powder, etc. and the body suit. There are no gloves, well at least for Idina, Shoshana, and Stephanie. Ana might actually wear gloves, but I didn't think I saw her in gloves. Just a quick note. Glad you enjoyed the show.

No, don't try to avoid from starting Wicked threads. Just try to avoid asking questions that have already been asked (use the search feature for that ). People who do not like Wicked just need to get over it.
Welcome to the board! I'm glad you liked Ana Gasteyer. I thought she sounded fantastic as Elphaba. You can go to https://www.broadway.com/ and see backstage videos of Wicked in NY, and learn about how the makeup is applied.
Does anyone know if Ana has been suffering from vocal issues recently? I have heard her sing on Saturday Night Live and the "Hair" CD and she sounded a lot healthier than she did when I saw her in Wicked on Sunday afternoon. But I figured she was probably just tired.
I thought she had some really beautiful moments-when she made her entrance in "Dancing Through Life" and stood there dancing alone, I got chills. I also liked seeing her develop from an insecure schoolgirl at the beginning into the Wicked Witch image we all know from the Wizard of Oz-even though Elphie isn't actually Wicked, it's fun to see an image of her that corresponds.
A part of me wished I got to see Kristy-does anyone know how many times she went on for Elphaba on Broadway? I figured the standby would always go on unless it was an emergency.
