Yes, there are people who would have loved to have seen her perform in Romantic Poetry, Katie22. Why not you?
I was thrilled to hear that she was acting again, as I enjoyed her performance immensely in White Christmas, and always keep a look out for the cast of that show and what they are up to now.
It's so disheartening to finally see a thread about one of the actors or actresses I would like to hear more about, and then immediately see such a rude post in response to the original posters question.
I also noticed that if you are the same Katie22 from ATC, you know a lot about Grey Gardens and have strong opinions about East of Doheny, the produders of the show...which means you know who Barzee is, and that makes your question odd.
If you aren't the same Katie22 from that site, please disregard the question at the top of my post.
Thanks for the link to the article, musicalsFan! I've been looking for some kind of review of this effort and was glad to see they interviewed both Barzee and Linn Baker!
edited for spelling.

Yes, she is a VP over at East of Doheny, which someone else told me when I posted awhile back in search of what she was doing post White Christmas. She was part of the producing team of Grey Gardens, and I think she's still there.
I wish I could have seen Romantic Poetry, as I like Shanley's work as well as her work!

Posted: 8/5/07 at 3:37amI saw her perform in Romantic Poetry on opening night at Vassar and wasn't really impressed. I didn't really know of her beforehand, but had high hopes after seeing all of her experience listed in her bio. I thought she was very weak - especially in the first act. She has a beautiful voice but seemed to blend into the background. She improved in the second act and seemed more in her element. The music is fantastic, but I can't see the show transferring to Broadway well - it's very "piecey" - doesn't go well together. Chris McGarry was amazing in every role and young Patina Miller captivated the audience. I enjoyed the show!

Posted: 8/5/07 at 1:51pmIt actually wasn't meant to be mean. Not at first at least. I really mean't, what is she in and why should we be interested in her. But now that you pointed out who she is and what she is in, now I really am not interested. But I can not imagine traveling up to Vasser for anyone.

Posted: 8/5/07 at 1:54pmI'm sorry, but I don't buy that you didn't know who she was already and already had a negative opinion of her because of EOD.

Posted: 8/5/07 at 8:38pmJust2me, don't worry, you're not the only one who finds Katie's behavior here and on ATC caustic to say the least. She is prone to incredibly inflammatory and wildly false/opininated 'statements' particularly about the prettier actresses. Seems pretty obvious what her problem is to me. I know Barzee did the one night Romantic Poetry benefit at the Lortel not too long ago but not in the lead role. I think she stepped in for Menzel when she dropped out. Some of us are interested.

I also saw the show. I wasn't familiar with Ms. Barzee but I enjoyed her in the show - although she didn't seem particularly special.
Overall, I really enjoyed the show, but I agree that it wouldn't really work on Broadway - it's too arty. Off-Broadway maybe. But the music was great and the characters interesting and the actors delightful. I left the theatre feeling happy and hopeful, so that counts for something.
