Well, as I said, I fully respect those who love it. And it's not that I hated it, I am more in the middle. I liked the music and the story, but it just lacked ... something for me. It will definetely not be a flop but a long run ? I don't know. In London it is already on tkts almost every day and it's running for less than a year. That is not a very great sign. But I may be wrong and it will take Bway by storm. We'll see.

I had also seen THE WOMAN IN WHITE - and I liked it a lot.
The musical score is beautiful and romantic, the sets are effective because the use of technology moves the multiple scenes fast, a dark gothic drama underlies the book, and the characters are interesting and well-acted.
New musicals with British antecedents are back - Spamalot is based on the popular Python series, Chitty is delighting families... soon on Broadway, Mary Poppins is set to boggle the mind with its spectacles, and Woman in White promises to be a romantic and dark drama set to ravishing music.

Posted: 6/11/05 at 10:43amWith all the rave reviews that have crossed the Atlantic, I would not be suprised to see Billy Elliot move right in to the Minskoff immediately following Fiddler, and WIW in the Marquis. Now I'm curious what will be going into the Hirshfeld & the Palace ~ I'm sure they'll both be vacant quite soon.

Posted: 6/11/05 at 11:42amI don't know about The Palace. My hunch is that All Shook Up is gonna last for a couple of years. And it better be, cause I want to see it and I don't think I'll be able to come to NYC till the spring/summer !

#33re: And going into the Marquis is...
Posted: 6/11/05 at 1:33pmI don't know if Billy would work on Broadway too. I just added it to the list of recent British musicals :)

Posted: 6/11/05 at 3:13pmHas Fiddler set a closing date yet? I thought Woman in White was supposed to be the season after next, and somehow I doubt Fiddler will hang on for that long. But I've thought that for a while and it's still running, so what do I know?

BroadwayStage05 - First of all, Millie closed long ago. The Marquis is the current home of La Cage. And Jersey Boys is going into the Virginia.
Oh, and capital letters are obnoxious.

Woman In White is not coming intil Spring 2006, so it means the Marquis will be empty for somewhile.. Fiddler I think can hold on until the end of the year or Jan 06...which is why if that closes around this time its perfect timing for WIW to open at that show in which many websites has rumoured it to play at.
Im hoping Pajama Game will open here...

WiW will be wise to avoid the Minskoff- the producers are having hesitations and even the company are doubting it will make it far beyond Dec 05 in London, not having returned investment.
WiW is ALW's next Aspects of Love. But please don't compare the score with LitP. Not remotely in the same league.

Posted: 6/12/05 at 1:44pmI have heard this too - i have some people telling me the West End revival of EVITA is to take place at that theatre for the fall of 06

Posted: 6/12/05 at 2:08pmAccording to a Variety Article, WIW has booked the Marquis, as previously stated.
