I'm sure Ebersole will win but the animosity against those of us who would love it if Murphy won (or McDonald for others) is ridiculous. Can we just enjoy the fact that the Drama Desk recognized both performers without bringing up the tedious "let them enjoy it now because come Tony night Ebersole is going to get them" argument?
Both speeches were absolutely thrilling. It was so touching to see Murphy and McDonald hugging each other with such joy and real excitement for each other. I found McDonald's speech to be so heartfelt and Murphy was so classy, I particularly loved her reference to the alleged stroke.
Good for them.

I agree with you.
Though I would vote for Ebersole and I hope she wins, I would be equally thrilled to see Murphy or McDonald win.

Posted: 5/22/07 at 5:54amWell DUH, Christine is the Tony winner but I'm saying if it was between Donna & Audra.

Posted: 5/22/07 at 9:27amI wonder how many BWW'ers would choke on their cosmopolitans if Audra or Donna won?

You know... It occurs to me...
The pro-Christine camp (I'm not saying I don't want ther to win, but I'd be thrilled with Audra and happy with Donna) is so afraid that the non- or alternative to-Christine camp is going to jinx her...
Don't you think all the "It's Christine's award! It has been!" might jinx her? Too much positive thinking??
Just a thought. Again, I'd be happy with any of the three. (Or any combination of the three.)
LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!

Ehhh...
People are passionate about a performance they love. I didn't love it. And before certain dodos say otherwise, I certainly 'got' Ebersole's performance, and I still didn't like it. I hope Audra takes it. I don't think any amount of good or bad will emoted on this board will have any say in what name the Tony voters check off. I was simply stating that the response on this board to a win for anyone other than Christine would be hilarious.

"I don't think there's ever been a tie in the leading actress in a musical cateogry,"
Gwen Verdon and Thelma Ritter tied in 1957 for New Girl in Town.

Posted: 5/22/07 at 9:49pmActually, there have been two-way ties in this category on three occasions - 1958, 1962 and 1968.

"How are you doing?"
"IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII'M PREGNAAAAAAAANT!"
That made me so happy. When they ran up to eachother I squealed.
Ugh, I adore those ladies.
