They should have just let Chloris Leachman do it. (I know the strange backstory about why she didn't.) They should ask her to step in for a few weeks as a desperation ploy.
In regards to Heather as Elizabeth, I think prefer her vocals to Megan's. Her "Deep Love" was much more powerful than Megan's. Other than that, her acting was basically a carbon copy of Megan.
What is the story surrounding Chloris? I heard Mel promised her the role (she maybe workshopped it?) and then the powers-that-be decided she was too old. Is that everything?
About Heather... I would've loved to see Megan, but I enjoyed Heather very much. Like was said, she is like a carbon copy of Megan. But I have to disagree about the singing. I thought she wasn't as strong towards the end of both her numbers. But I haven't seen Megan, as I said.

The way I understood it was that Cloris Leachman wanted the role, but Mel Brooks was worried about her health and wouldn't give it to her. Plus, they wanted the stage show to be a different entity from the movie.
Now, if that's actually TRUE or not idk
I was not going to see YF again, but now that Beth is taking over the role of Frau Blucher, I MUST!
I think it's EXCELLENT casting. "He Was My Boyfriend" came on the radio the other day and I easily imagined Beth killing with that number. I adore Andrea Martin and have for decades, but I adore Beth even more.

How can you say that Heather is a carbon copy of Megan if you've never SEEN Megan on?
Regarding Cloris Leachman--whom I love BTW--remember that she is a good 30 years older than Beth Leavel and Andrea Martin. Eight shows a week is tough on anyone at any age, let alone someone in her 80s.
Linda, "Wonderful Town", Mugleston is Martin's understudy right? While I agree, Martin is probably tops in the role, I can't imagine that Mugleston is awful.

I'm sure she's scared of dear Mel freaking out for her daring to make the role her own, as we learned from Seth's recent Playbill article.
