Vaults of Heven is NOT the same as Jurassic Park. Look at the music and listen to it again. A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste is one of Lloyd Webber's greatest songs ever. Meat Loaf's version is excellent along with the Boy George Try Not To Be Afraid which is a perfect male ballad choice for audition.
For thos who do not like Webber because of his "pop" musical theatre songs, listen to "Song and Dance" and "Aspects of Love." Those two have the most "sondheim" sound to them.
I'll suggest you audition "Music of the Night". =-D
>Christine's high note at the end of the title song is indeed pre-recorded, as is much of that song due to technical requirements. The reason is that, for a lot of the song, it's not the actual actors onstage but body doubles. Not sure about Christine, but I understand there are up to 2 extra "Phantoms" used during the first half of it.>
Yes, Phantom and Christine come out 3-4 times in the title song. The first 2 times aren't really them(they go down stairs, they go up stairs...)
I always thought that it was just the Christines high notes that were pre-recorded but I got yelled at a number of times by people on this bored that say the whole song is recorded. =-/
<< Actually, his last name is Webber. His father's middle name is Lloyd and he gave both his sons the same middle name. Lloyd Webber is NOT his proper last name. >>
It is *now.* When they made him a "Lord," he was given the right to hyphenate his last name "Lloyd-Webber."
I would hardly call "Aspects of Love" like Sondheim (although I do moderately-like [or at least don't mind] AoL). Other than the minimalist instrumentation, they're pretty different.
I meant, it is the closest to a Sondheim piece than the rest of his works.
I think i've decided on Vaults of Heaven after hearing it...
Now I just need to pick a good part of the song and find the sheet music...lol
Thanks for all of your inputs and helps on this!
The Vocal Selections book for WHISTLE is very avalable and very worth having for all the songs.
