Here is a bit of rare footage. It's only a part of a full video of Dame Lansbury singing the song from the 1974 revival. Does anyone have it or know anything about it? It was used in an interview in 2007.

Boy, what I would give to see a fuller clip. It's amazing seeing her perform it in the context of the show, as opposed to her versions on various award shows. Even that small clips shows how well she must have acted that number.

I was contacted by a kind soul who sent me this link: http://www.nbcuniversalarchives.com/nbcuni/clip/5112775225_s01.do

It's from an interview shot in 1974 of Dame Lansbury. Here's the full description:
"Chauncy Howell, NBC News, interviews Angela Lansbury actress, at the Winter garden Theatre in N.Y.C.
Film opens with scenes from Gypsy at the Winter Garden Theatre and then flashbacks of some of Ms. Lansbury's films such as Gaslight, The Portrait of Dorian Gray and The Manchurian Candidate. Ms. Lansbury is seen in make-up preparation for Gypsy, while her voice over speaks about her love for the theater and role as Mame. The finale form Mame is seen. The entire interview with Ms. Lansbury takes place in her dressing room."

Saw Lansbury in 1974 and she remains the definitive Mama Rose for me. There was a power in the entire performance that was missing (for me) with Peters and Lupone.   The closest I came in strength was Tyne Daly.   But Lansbury to me nailed the pathos, power and 'punch' of Rose.
