I don't know about most of you BWWers (if you are performers or not), but as a singing actor I don't sing every role the same way in each show. I approach a character's "voice" the same way as putting on an accent, or working on a physical trait. It's part of my "color palette" for playing a role.
Just because I can belt high doesn't mean I plow through every role that same flashy way. I've added a "rough edge" vocally, or a darker low tone, if it's called for. I've also added a nasal twang, etc. The music helps dictate the singing style, as well.
Let's give the girl some credit and let her develop the character first, before we decide in advance how she's going to sing it.
