A stunning, gorgeous collection of swing-time music witgh a visit from Sondheim. (Ann's NO ONE IS ALONE is one of the most beautiful renditions I've heard of the song.)
This woman's voice is a smooth, buttery version of Rosemary Clooney, Ella Fitzgerald and all the other greats combined.
You don't have to be a lover of the era of music to fall in love with some of the tracks on here. While all of the numbers are stunning, especially the title number Ann stole SWING! with (BLUES IN THE NIGHT), SPRING CAN REALL HANG YOU UP THE MOST is a masterpiece. I've had the song on loop since I got the album.
A delicious album for bathtime, bedtime, the road, studying, writing and just some good ol'fashioned you-know-what. *GRIN*
Ann-- if you see this, you're sensational. It's a triumph!

i think THE TOO WHITE TO SING THE BLUES blues is an example of where AHC has gone wrong in her career. going for cute (when it's good and schlock when it's not) over elegance and cool. i prefer her recordings over the live performances. she can take your $50 ticket to a jazz club/ and all the $$ you spent on dinner and parking etc and make you feel like you're at a bar mitzvah. when i listen to the records i wonder why she isn't as successful as some of the others but when i see her shows it's obvious.
