Interesting casting!
Ann-Margret Sets Date with West End's CALENDAR GIRLS?

I only know her from my CD of Whorehouse but I get the impression she's something of an icon over there.

It's no secret I was disappointed with this stage adaption but this news could persuade me back into the theatre. Perhaps they've even done work on it during the national tour rather than just counting the cash in the coffers.

And will she get the teapot, the iced buns or the aspidistra?

Ann-Margret live on stage. That will certainly get me interested in this play.

Btw - she's done a hell of a lot more than the Best Little Whorehouse revival, mainly on the big screen. Her first role was as teenager Kim in the movie of "Bye Bye Birdie". She co-starred with Pat Boone in "State Fair". She starred with Jack Nicholson and Art Garfunkel in Mike Nicholl's "Carnal Knowledge" - and many others.........

My initial thought seeing this was that London was going to get her one woman show!
This is one amazing talent.

I only know her from the Bye Bye Birdie movie and the appalling '62 State Fair remake when she murdered the previously great Vivian Blaine role. I'm kinda excited about this play now, I wasn't before hearing about this casting.

So that's why she's an icon! If she dated Elvis she must be knocking on a bit.

I've never seen the Bye Bye Birdie movie - even though I'm a fan of Charles Strouse scores.

It may have something to do with the £:$ exchange rate and getting American tourists into the theatre.

Just back from Calendar Girls...decent film, thin, thin play.
Sian Philips was superb..about 8 or 9 laughs in the whole show.
Sold out for the week..the audience loved it.

A so and so production of a great musical that toured the U.S with Ann Margret a few years back. Luke warm reviews on the road prevented a much anticipated Broadway opening.
The composers evn wrote a new number for her.
