I know people always suggest that she should play Elphaba in the Wicked movie and I honestly do not think she should. Then I got to thinking and now I seriously would love to see her play Millie in Thoroughly Modern Millie if they ever did a movie remake based off of the stage musical (not that they would). Just curious, anyone else think this could be a good idea?
EDIT: Thanks, I didn't know I typed Anna

Posted: 6/15/09 at 12:37pmI'm not overly familiar with her range though I do know she has training. Physically I think she could definitely be Millie.

Posted: 6/15/09 at 12:38pmI think she'd get the physical comedy part right, too. That'd be great! I would love to see a movie version of the staged show, because the 60's movie is soooo different.

I saw a production of Millie and the Millie had a beautiful soprano voice...but she couldn't belt a bit, which didn't do the songs justice at all.
In all that I've read about Anne's voice, I have either heard soprano or lyric soprano, so I wonder if she has a nice mix and can belt.
If she can, then she'd be a good fit.
As for the Wicked movie, I will only believe it when I see it.

Posted: 6/15/09 at 1:03pmI think she'd be cute, if she could do the singing. Something about her physicality when she performs does remind me a bit of Sutton Foster, but she has more of a bashfulness about her that's kind of endearing!

Posted: 6/15/09 at 3:53pmProvided she could vocally handle it, I think she would be absolutely perfect for the role.

Posted: 6/15/09 at 7:34pmI think Anne Hathaway will be able to pull it off. If Madonna was able to pull off 'Evita', I think she will be just fine. I'm sure she is in intense training for the role.

Posted: 6/15/09 at 7:44pmThere is no "training" as there are no plans for this movie. The op was just speculating a whole bunch of "ifs".

A few seasons ago, a virtually unknown Anne Hathaway played the lead in the Encores performances of CARNIVAL ..... here's one of her songs (sound quality less than ideal, but hey, it's what we have):

I'm glad you posted that, TimesSquare, I have been listening to that version of Yes, My Heart for a while now. I just think Anne Hathaway's voice, while not perfectly refined, is quite beautiful. And what she lacks in precision she more than makes up for in her acting chops. I've always thought she was pretty good, even bringing life to the whole 'pretty girl playing an ugly girl who becomes beautiful' subgenre. Plus I think she is one of the few actresses who can make the smallest of scenes or lines completely memorable. Between the rehearsal dinner speech in 'Rachel Getting Married' and that phone conversation near the end of 'Brokeback Mountain', she gives her all each and every moment.
Oh, and although I doubt this would ever happen I think she would make an excellent Millie. I can already picture her 'Forget About the Boy'.
