Anne of Green Gables 3/30

So i've been looking forward to this show for a while. Unfortunately, I totally forgot the 7 p.m. curtain and arrived 30 minutes late. Boooo. But still, I got to see the last hour and it flew by! I am biased because I am such a lover of the books, but I had such a great time and left the theatre unable to stop similing. It's a small, simple show so I don't feel it's fair to "compare" Anne and review it like a full Broadway show, because this is still childrens theatre. The sets are simple, but the cast was heartfelt.

Much hoopla has bene made over Piper Goodeve's looks, but she was absolutely charming and spot-on as Anne. She was rash, emotional, imaginative, and very loving. Her chemistry with Andrew Gehling as Gilert was very true and sweet. Jessica Grove wasn't given much to do as Diana Barry, but she was wonderful as well. Eric Devine and Bethe B. Austin played off each other beautifully as Marill aand Matthew, and Matthews deat hscene broke my heart as it always does.

The music was simple and playful and fit in well wit hthe story. My personal favorite tune was "It Was Not Because of Gilbert Blythe," in which Anne insists she did not dye her hair because Gilbert teased her, and all the while Diana is getting accidently drunk! Very funny scene! The evening went by fast and I am glad I saw this, it put me in such a nostolgic, hopeful mood. I hope to see it again so I can catch the begining. That's all I can think of for now!

re: Anne of Green Gables 3/30

Oh, Im so envious, too bad is such a short run. I wish it had opened earlier so I could have seen it while in NYC. I loved the Canadian TV series.

re: Anne of Green Gables 3/30

How does this score compare with the one written in teh 1960s for the stage msuiacl done in Charlottetown and later in London.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
