Why?
Annie at MSG

I hate "Annie" and the Felt Forum, now called The Theatre at Madison Square Garden is awful as well.
whine whine whine. I happen to enjoy seeing it whenever a local production or tour pops up. While it may not be Sondheim, it is still fun, and most of the 12 and under set I babysit love watching the movie with me before their bedtime.

Theatre at MSG is not the best venue for a show like this. It's a 5,600 seat cavern. Annie is not a big enough show visually to fill it.

The best thing about "Annie" is the part in the film "Serial Mom" when Kathleen Turner commits murder to the beat of "Tomorrow".
Yes, that part was amusing, however, my favorite is still in the film "The Addams Family Values" where Wednesday and Pugsly are forced to watch a slew of Disney films and inspriational musiacls all night long. Wednesday screaming to "Tomorrow" when she hears it is priceless.
While we're talking about priceless ANNIE references,
"I'm 30 years old, tomorrow. And I haven't worked since I played Annie, when I was 10"
A classic
Was the 5600 seats and estimate, or a fact? I've never seen a show there, and I've always thought, "Dang, that has to be a huge theatre"

5600 seats is fact. Although I doubt that all have ever been used because a few have total obstructed view of the stage (i.e. your sitting behind a column).

I concur.
I saw many shows there and it never felt like over 5000 seats. Wow, I never realized it was so big.
I hope they upgrade their sets somewhat for that huge space, but I doubt it. I saw the tour at Pantages (I won free tickets and took my five year old Annie-fan daughter who loved it) and the sets were just horrible one-dimensional backdrops. I've seen amateur productions of Annie with better sets. Shuck was just okay, McKenzie Phillips was blah as Lily, but Ms. Hannigan was super (can't remember who played it--but was really, really good).
Annie is a well-written, award-winning musical. It was probably the last golden-era book musical. It has entertained countless audiences. It is NOT all about one song. How many of the pooh-pooher who are bashing it have actuyally SEEN the show free of their bias?

We saw Peter Pan there last Christmas. Don't repeat our mistake and buy Annie tickets in the 300s, behind the aisle. You're at least 100 yards from the stage and people are walking in front of you all night.
It's like a circus, with whirly lights for sale in the lobby. If you sit near the back doors the noise of the late arrivals drowns out the dialogue.
C'mon, it's the Felt Forum, not some 'theatre.' It's OK for concerts, awful for musicals. I was half-expecting the ice cold beer guy from the Garden to walk by any second.

When it comes to "Annie", I think the seats by the back doors will be hard to come by!
morosco---I agree with you about the original and Dorothy Loudon.
But it sounds like this particular "Annie" belongs in a circus-like atmosphere.
I wonder what the producers were thinking. "Let's see, the revival flopped... so we'll put our production of it in a BIGGER place! Yeah, that'll work!"

Not only bigger, but as Broadway Local pointed out, not a house designed for musicals. It really is a concert venue.
