...Well, maybe.
From playbill.com -
Annie, the smash Broadway musical, will be introduced to a new generation starting in summer 2005 when a New York-aimed tour launches in Seattle, producer Rodger Hess told Playbill On-Line.
The 1977 show's lyricist, Martin Charnin, will direct the Equity production, to be produced by Ken Gentry, Rodger Hess, Tim and Terri Childs. The production will include a new song written for Daddy Warbucks, "Why Should I Change a Thing?," which premiered in an Australian staging and made its U.S. premiere in a 2004 mini tour.
Bookings for the 2005-06 tour are being lined up, with a hope to play Broadway or another major Manhattan venue in 2006, Hess said. No casting has been announced.
The show turns 30 in 2007. The Seattle dates are expected to be late August 2005.

Even though we sometimes get a Beauty and the Beast or Hairspray, there aren't always a lot of shows that both parents and kids can enjoy. I think it's nice when we get a couple of good family shows that haven't conformed to Pop Musical. And it's good that some of the kid who perform on Broadway will get some work. :)

Posted: 5/22/04 at 10:53amI really like the show. It would be nice if I could actually see it for a change. I saw the girl in the revival on the Tonys. She was awful! All she did was open her mouth and eyes really wide. She had absolutely no feeling or expression whatsoever.

i agree with mister matt - annie is a great show, and it's exciting that it's coming back to ny. what i would give to be a 10 year old girl and belt Hard Knock Life on broadway :)
i think Maybe is one of my favorite musical theatre songs ever.

I love the show, but this seems way too early since the last revival especially if there is no star attached. I was struck by the sentence in the article that says the production is headed for Broadway or "another major Manhattan venue in 2006." I don't think I've ever seen an anouncement of this type that hedged its bets like that.
I wish them luck, but I don't see it working.

Posted: 5/22/04 at 6:25pmMy biggest concern is that the same director is attached. It was so stale and by the numbers the last time. Can't this man move on to something else?

Posted: 5/22/04 at 9:55pmI'm sorry but Annie is a cute show, but it is REALLY overdone. Every place I've been that has some sort of theater program has done Annie and it gets SO annoying. It's way too soon for another revival with what happened with the last one.

Posted: 5/22/04 at 9:58pmMaybe he's learned from the last one...Maybe Kristin Chenoweth should play Annie. Lol, that will make people rethink if she's too old for Glinda...

Posted: 5/22/04 at 10:04pmThat's really weird. Everywhere I've been, they never do Annie. Maybe a school production or something, but nothing professional. If they did, I'd go see it. Yeah, the story is cutesy, but it has a great score and Miss Hannigan and Rooster are awesome characters.
