I saw the revival and was extremely disappointed. I'm glad I only paid for standing room. Thomas Meehan was standing next to me and I believe this was one of the early performances that "We'd Like to Thank You" was cut (it was still listed in the Playbill).
The sets were bad (I remember 2 small turntables), the direction was bad, and the show lacked focus. I also attended when Nell's understudy was on (her name escapes me).
The original production was my first Broadway show and the revival definitely paled in comparison. I believe Mike Nichols produced the original version and had nothing to do with the revival (and therein lies a major difference).

Posted: 9/12/05 at 5:17pmI think the revival had so many issues from the start. From what I've heard Joanna Pacitti was AMAZING... I saw Brittny Kissinger do the part on Broadway and while she was good I think they could have gotten someone much better. I don't think she was quite ready at that point.

"I wish Sally Struthers had done it on Broadway - I heard she was fabulous on the road."
She was a riot, Rath. I liked her a lot more than I expected I would.

Posted: 1/24/07 at 10:46pmDo you or anyone know where I can view or buy the reairing of the Barbara Walters special? I already have the first Turning POint special that shows the Macy's Contest, but it ends after Joanna gets the part of Annie. I want to see the part where it shows her after being fired and Brittny playing Annie. I saw it on TV years ago and can't find it anywhere. I ordered the special off the ABC store, but like I said, it doesn't show Joanna being fired and Brittny taking over. Please help anyone!

This thread is fascinating! I used to watch the TV special over and over...I would have loved to know all this 10 years ago when I was 12 and obsessed with it.
"I didn't see the production but I know several people who were in it and worked it and they said that it was obvious why she was fired from the show"
Why? Was it acting, chemistry with the other actors, her voice, her attitude...?
I'd be interested to know what Sutton had to say about the revival, too.
