My friend has an ad for the musical Triumph of Love where Elayne Boosler was going to be in it (the Nancy Opel role). Obviously that didn't work out.
Can you name other actors/shows where someone was announced but never appeared?

Edward Villella of NYC Ballet and Eleanor Parker in Pal Joey at Circle in the Square back in the mid-70's. I can't remember why Villella withdrew, but Parker then left allegedly because he had, there was much drama and the production was almost cancelled. At the last minute, Christopher Chadman and Joan Copeland took over. Dixie Carter, Janie Sell and Marilu Henner were in supporting roles.
ETA Thanks, Demitri, for reminding me it was Villella and not Baryshnikov. I've since read that Villella asked Jerome Robbins to watch a final run-through. Afterwards, Robbins told him it would it would damage his reputation to appear in New York in this production. I saw it with Chadman. Despite fine work from Carter and Sell, among others, the show was long, slow-paced and very flawed, often a real chore to sit through.

Laurie Metcalf, THE ANARCHIST (replaced by Debra Winger)
Lisa Emery, ENTERTAINING MR SLOANE (replaced by Jan Maxwell)

In reference to Patti LuPone from earlier in the thread, it was announced from the very beginning that both her and Kevin Anderson would star in the London and New York productions of SUNSET BLVD, and that was the company line right up to the minute Glenn Close and Alan Campbell were announced as their replacements.
