"Tied to the hood of a yellow rental truck
Packed in with fertilizer and fuel oil"

is an ovious reference to the Oklahome City bombing, which occurred in 1995.

And also...

Angel mentions Thelma & Louise, when the movie wasn't released until 1991.

Jon, you're right on track. There are inconsistencies in the movie, but when Anthony went on the record as admitting that the film had flaws, I was actually okay with it. The whole thing would have been resolved by not actually acknowledging the year(s) in Mark's voice overs, but it is what it is.

And to EverythingIsRENT, what other Ryder Truck-bombs (that were filled with fertilizer, chemicals and motor fuel)do you know of? Perhaps there's something I'm missing here...

well, I was only 7 years old when that happened, so I guess that's why I never realized the kind of truck it was...

Patronus - I feel like a goshdarn dinousaur! Egad. I hate when I age myself.

Still haven't seen the movie (for a multitude of reasons, but I am seeing it this weekend for sure). Do they specifically say it's "in the 80s?" Yes, I'm too lazy this morning to search the gazillion RENT movie threads for an answer!

Merci buckets.

Why couldn't this have been mentioned in all the other threads about the Rent bloopers?

And I was 9 when the Oklahoma City bombing happened, so it's only ovious [sic] to people that remember the details of that event.

peach, as Garth Brooks said - "I'm much too young to feel this damn old." I am a firm believer in the age is a number/you are only as old as you feel mantras, but when I see someone who was 7 in 1995 discussing things with me rather than crying over their pacifier, I tend to get a bit misty eyed. re: Another RENT movie anachronism that no one here mentioned

Yes, it's mentioned specifically that it takes place in 89 going into 90.

It is just lazy research. There is no excuse. Of course they could have just eliminated the year in the voice over and no one would have cared.

PEACE.
