Depending on when you're going to be here, Hedwig is an awesome show if you see it with John Cameron Mitchell, but I wouldn't waste my time and money with Darren Criss. Kinky Boots is a fun show, but I wouldn't say the greatest. I'd choose Fun Home instead.
How many shows are you planning to see?

Of the ones you mentioned, I'd suggest Fun Home. I don't think Hedwig will be worth seeing if it is even still around in July. Hamilton - as I'm sure you are aware - is the hottest ticket town and everyone I know who has seen it (I'm not going til mid-March) says the hype is well deserved - so if for any reason they announce a transfer or an extension, I would get tix for that asap.
No, 6 is not too much -- not to us here!
When I go to NY, I plan my trip around the number if shows I can afford/squeeze in! So. In 8 to 10 days, I'd be seeing 10 to 12 shows.
Your list looks great. Shows to consider adding:
Something Rotten
The Visit
Hand to God
You said you're going in July... On The 20th Century is closing July 5 (if it doesn't get extended), so that might fall off your list...
I'm personally super excited about An American in Paris and very curious about Gigi, but I love these old-school, classic musical theater type shows.
Also really looking forward to Finding Neverland.
