Wow - those are NOT the original costume designs - the father's outfits are so bright and clown-like. The boy was originally in a blue oxford shirt, khaki pants and brown loafers. Now he appears to be in all white, with a puffy pirate shirt! The girl was originally in yellow gingham.
And I know there's a line about the sweater being big enough for him to share with the girl, but I didn't think that was to be taken literally!
Thanks, Yankeefan! I (obviously) never knew that. (And now that I know that fact, and re-read BSoBW2's post, I understand that he was saying the same thing...but I guess I was being obtuse. It was really late, after all!)
I like Anthony and THE FANTASTIKS. This is a great fit all the way around!

I get bored very easily when I go to the theatre, yet, while I saw The Fantasticks I was engaged for the entire hour and a half.

In most productions I've seen of The Fantasticks, the costumes vary from production to production, albeit the same themes, e.g. Luisa is wearing "innocent" type clothes, a skirt or dress and blouse, Matt is in conservative "boy next door" clothes etc. And I have seen productions where the fathers in are in loud clothes like that. Which production was Luisa originally in a gingham dress? The one with Rita Gardner or the original 1 act with Susan Watson? Because all pics I have seen from the original off-Broadway with Gardner, she is wearing a skirt and a simple camisole.
Also, any word on this Luisa--Julie Craig? She looks beautiful, but how is her acting/singing etc? Off-topic, but still The Fantasticks: but I just saw a production with mothers instead of fathers. At first I thought it was odd, but it worked.
Arghh! Grammar pet peeve #1: your vs you're. "Your" is a possessive pronoun. "You're" is the contraction of "you are."

I just came back from seeing him and I thought that for his very first time on stage, he did a terrific job ! Not that there is no room for imporovement of course. I thought that in parts the key was too low for him. The previous actor in the part was a baritone, but Anthony is a tenor, so they need to do some adjustment. But otherwise he was very good. The costume he was wearing was even more bizarre than what he was wearing in the pictures. Why, on god"s green earth was he wearing that ridiculous sweater for the good part of the play ? And at some point he had it on upside down - ooops :).
I also really enjoyed the play itself. I"ve never seen it before, and it held my attention for the whole time. I will gladly go see it again. And again, and again.
Julie Craig is a wonderful actress. I can"t say enough about her. But I"ve heard that she is leaving the play in a few weeks because she found something else. Hopefully it"s a part on Broadway, because if anyone deserves it, it"s her. In fact, all the actors in this play are great. I don"t remember the last time I enjoyed a play so much - acting, singing, everything. I am going to see it again and again and again. OK, so it"s mostly for Anthony, but I will enjoy everyone in that play.
And as far as the stage door, Julia was wonderful. She accomodated everyone, taking pictures, giving autographs. A very nice person. And she is gorgeous - even more so in person than on stage. When Anthony came out, he had a good-size crowd waiting for him, with some photographers from Broadwayworld.com and some other media outlets. He stayed until everyone was kicked out when the theater was closing for the night. He took pics, gave autographs, talked to everyone. Just a great, great experience overall.
That's such a cute story siny, I wish I had been there! and Im glad that although you went to see Federov, you had the good taste to enjoy this wonderful show. I had the same feeling when I saw it. But of course, no photographers or anyone waiting at the stage door.
