Anthony Rapp "Take Me or Leave Me"?

A friend told me he went to a certain performance in which Anthony Rapp performed "Take Me or Leave Me" singing Joanne's part in the song, does anybody know about this performance and who did Maureen? Or was I lied to?

I believe it was Alice Ripley. At Fez, I think.

It was Alice Ripley.

It is a bit of a stretch to say he "sang" Joanne's part. From what I remember he basically talked the lines while Alice ripped a new hole in the Maureen part.

Listening to it right now - he does sing part of it, but a lot of it is spoken. Basically they're just having fun with each other, though I do have to agree about Alice "ripping a new hole in the Maureen part," as Patronus so eloquently put it .

I had no idea it was Alice Ripley. Thank god THAT mystery is solved. This was the first song I heard from RENT (this recording, and I had NO IDEA what RENT was about.) When I heard the actual recording with Fredi and Idina, I was shocked it was two women!

I see, thanks guys, was Alice Ripley that bad? Well, I thought Rapp would do justice to the song but with someone like Idina, not because she's the only one that could pull off Maureen but because they're both OBC members.
Side note: loving the Elphaba version of the Cabaret MC,Patronus.

Well now I'm confused - I've heard the expression "rip/tear something a new a**hole" in both positive and negative connotations, and I thought Patronus meant it in a positive way. I was pretty impressed with Alice's rendition, but perhaps Patronus was not?

Yeah, during the part where Anthony is singing Joanne's chorus, where Maureen would usually say "control freak, snob yet over-attentive, etc," Alice ad-libs...oh hell, I'll just post the whole thing

It was funny and cute, but Ripley sang the hell out of the part. As far as I'm concerned, she's one of the best people who have sung it. When she holds that note on 'who's in your bed' etc... i nearly flipped.

I did download it from Limewire. By the way, when it comes up on Limewire, it lists it as Anthony Rapp with Idina Menzel. Mistake? I guess so, according to this board.
My favorite part when Anthony says,
"So be wise cause this GIRL satisfies" when referring to himself.

I meant "ripping a new hole" in the most positive of ways. I thought Alice's version was fantastic.

Thanks to JACXR71 I have listened to the recording of the song. I must say that as much as I love Anthony Rapp's voice, I was not amazed or impressed by his rendition of "Take Me or Leave Me," actually I didn't like it, but that's just my personal opinion. And although everyone's raving about Ripley, I didn't love it either, not a bad performance but it wasn't my favorite "Take Me or Leave Me."

It wasn't meant to match the greatness of the Fredi-Idina version or whatever, it was just a song he did for fun at his concert.

I have it. It's a pitiful rendition of the song. People claimed that it is Idina singing Maureen, and they are liars. Whoever it is, Alice or not, she does not have the Maureen character voice or emotion. As for Anthony, he's just having fun with it, and it shows that that's all he wants to do with it.
