Hi i noticed that in imdb.com on the rent page it says...
Doug Campbell .... Anthony Rapp Stand in

why would he need a stand-in>>
i love the soundtrack but haven't seen the show yet so can anyone guess why he would need a stand-in???

Fiyero,

Stand-ins are often times used mainly for setup and lighting purposes. In movies it takes FOREVER to setup and light a scene. Directors will ask for someone with the same characteristics (hair color, skin color, height, etc) as the main actor to "stand-in" so they can get the lighting right. Most of the time stand-ins are not needed, but if the actor is filming another scene somewhere or in makeup etc, a stand-in will be used to setup the next scene. Does that make sense?? =)

Just like stephygirl says, they aren't really used in the actual film most of the time, but are used for techincal purposes. Get the feel of the shot etc.

Haha watch Love Actually there is a whole amusing "love" story between stand-ins for a movie...

maybe they had someone fill in for the riot scene?...although that would be considered a stunt double

Yeah, most likely that would be a stunt double. Like Dirty said, stand-ins are usually never in the actual movie.

Me not being overly familiar with the film world, could the stand-in possibly be Anthony's dance double? Not that I doubt his dance skills but he has said that the Tango:Maureen choreography is much more complicated than the stage version's.

Contact actually isn't in the movie. The stand in could of been used for a number of things, but Anthony's glorious face gets all the screen time. So no worries.

I'm sure that there were several other stand-ins, but they evidently didn't bother to submit their names to IMDb. The listings there aren't official and can be submitted by anyone.

Yeah my friend's dad is a stand-in for one of the characters on CSI and he's used mainly for when the director is setting up the shot and adjusting the camera angles and lighting. As someone else said, its usually just a person with similar physical traits so the director can get everything ready for the main actor or actress. But they sometimes put the stand ins in the movie as extras. (Random tidbit of info, in the three Lord of the Rings movies, there are many times where you see Arwen's stand in and riding double in the group scenes as many various characters throughout the trilogy.)

I wanted to get something that an "ex"-junkie like him would really appreciate and cherish....it's a brick of heroin shaped like a heart. -Scrubs
